They just need a 'home quote' on Monday night football, and a 'Monday night quota'.

Every team should have to host once on a Monday night. Then 10 unlucky teams host a 2nd game, with no team playing more than 4 times on Monday night over the course of the year.

Every big sport makes most of their $$$ from TV, so ratings are really quite important. It then becomes a question of how to get bums on seats for the Monday night games - and perhaps the answer is subsidised tickets, or giveaways or ??

My idea for Monday night footy as a compromise.

16 games total.

No game when there is a Thursday night game, before origin/tests.

Each team hosts one game.

NRL works with each club to promote the game as an event.

Ticket deals, kids free etc.

Encourage clubs to take the game to SFS to get the after work crowd, or to grounds that don't normally get games, ie. Belmore, north sydney oval, Henson, redfern etc.

big hit!

This could deserve a thread of its own but thought here would do. Written by Andrew Voss:

4) Do the Gold Coast Titans need help?

Yes they do.
...................................................................................................

I know they Titans have a brand new stadium which needs to be paid for but that is pretty steep. Hope there are no hills between the stadium and car park either.

http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au...e-bleeding-money/story-fnj9yd9w-1226995933238

Given the difficulties Gold Coast teams have had in the past, the NRL really needed to be heavily involved in the set up and negotiations with government for the Titans up there. You would think they would've learnt from the past, but as usual folks in the NRL were/are too busy fighting amongst themselves and concerned more about their own survival and perks than any long-term objectives in the best interests of rugby league.

lots of pats on the back in the initial years of the Titans. the brand has stench over it now.

the AFL ensured they got management rights for the Suns at Cararra. the club controls everything at the stadium for the first 10 years of their existence at least. they're nicely set up.

which game is more popular up there is moot. they're alternatives in terms of sports entertainment. the suns still have the good will of the people and realised that success relies on more than just plonking a team in an area.

the big sports have worked to build and protect their attendances first and foremost.

Blame David Gallop for an absolutely horrid lack of engagement with government. 10 years of absolute inaction.

People aren`t going to take their kids to the footy in the rain especially if the ground does`nt have sufficient cover and they have to stand in mud.
I was at Leichhardt on Saturday night, with 7yo and 3yo, plus a friend and his 10yo, 7yo and 5yo. I managed to stuff my leg up, slipping on the wet wooden seats behind the in-goal. My 3yo got sick on Sunday night. My 7yo got sick on Monday night. Getting sick might just be coincidence, but I doubt my wife will look favourably on me taking them again in that sort of weather.

ps The kids had a great time despite the weather and result.

Doing my comparison of games again (see http://forums.leagueunlimited.com/sh...postcount=2019).

Round 23 (104k) was 17k down on the average of the equivalent games from 2009-2013 (121k). This is only marginally better than the worst round 22 over that time, with 2011 recording -18k. We are a long way into the negative cumulative now.

crowd_2014_23.png

The biggest gap was at a very soggy Leichhardt Oval. Wests Tigers vs Roosters was -9k on average. This was the lowest crowd between these teams ever. The previous worst was 8,393 in round 23, 2013.

The other 5 negatives were:
- Raiders vs Dragons -4k (lowest crowd for this fixture since 2001)
- Titans vs Sea Eagles -3k (lowest crowd for this fixture ever)
- Panthers vs Cowboys -2k
- Rabbitohs vs Broncos -1k (lowest crowd for this fixture since 2006)
- Knights vs Warriors -1k

The 2 positive games were:
- Eels vs Bulldogs +4k
- Storm vs Sharks +1k

Next week's par crowd total is 127k, but again I think we will struggle to get that.

My guesses are:
- Bulldogs vs Wests Tigers 12k
- Eels vs Sea Eagles 17k
- Broncos vs Knights 24k
- Rabbitohs vs Cowboys 15k
- Warriors vs Roosters 16k
- Sharks vs Raiders 10k
- Dragons vs Titans 11k
- Panthers vs Storm 8k
Total: 113k

graph really shows how variables such as origin affects the momentum of the season and how it doesn't recover until the final couple of rounds prior to finals when spots or on the line. folks start watching their team on tele and then get into that routine over winter.

season is too long too, but of course, the broadcasters want their product.

Doubt if the game picking system is locked up that tightly in the rights that it can't be re calibrated

If push comes to shove I'm sure the TV guys have bent the rules anyway

Ie. No hd as promised etc.

As they say at bing Lee. Everything's negotiable

Exactly lock days in. Like Good Friday Channel 9 can show or they don't. Give them 1st choice for 'locked in games'. All we need is a big game a fortnight at ANZ on a Sunday or public Holiday and go from there.

Number of big challenges:
1. How to best maximise the "tribalism" of having so many clubs in one city without over saturation
2. How to minimise the very low drawing 10k crowds
3. How to deal with fan unfriendly time slots such as monday nights whilst balancing the TV value
4. How to deal with the antiquated stadiums that offer no weather protection and which invariably draw the lowest crowds in poor weather

Some suggestions:
1. Have a real hyped Sydney blockbuster derby game every Friday night at SFS and Sunday afternoon at ANZ. Take away the clubs choice in where they play the big games and spend money marketing them. Free entry to both teams members
2. Spread the Monday night games more fairly, each team only plays one, games to be at 7:30pm KO, free entry to kids, free entry to any NRL club member. 16 Monday night games only. other 4 games Thursday night prior to PH's or even weeknight of the PH if mid week.
3. Reduce rounds to 20 and bring in two new teams meaning nine games a weekend to compensate for loss of 6 rounds.
4. SOO/internationals on stand alone weekends
5. Every team has to take at least 1 game to an NRL chosen location in either country or affiliated state, clubs compensated for travel costs and loss of earnings, NRL responsible for marketing, ticketing etc
6. Manly to play 4 of 10 games in Gosford
7. Min standards re undercover seating, corporate facilities and fan facilities to be brought in. If stadium not up to standard it is not to be used full stop.

like em all but not sure about no. 6 although thats pretty unimportant. Also, i'd prefer a regional round or something. that way you generate a bit of noise every time in all the towns.

Wont happen very soon though. I'd hope most of it is implemented by 2018 which should be the year of the new tv deal and the year we aim to hit 20k avgs.

Season 2014 has seen some huge crowds help cheer the team on to victory throughout the year.

Help us finish off the season with another blockbuster crowd by organising a big group of friends, family, colleagues or team-mates to watch the Swans take on Richmond in our last home game of the season at ANZ Stadium on Saturday August 30.

We’ve put together two great offers to help your group book now and save:

BIG GROUPS:
Purchase 10 or more tickets to score a 15% discount and a free gift*.
Ideal for celebrating the end of season with your mates and cheering on the red and white ahead of the finals.
Book now or find out more by emailing tickets@sydneyswans.com.au or call 02 9339 9123.

SMALL GROUPS:
Four tickets for just $129!**.
Round up your office buddies and be part of the Swans’ charge towards the finals.
To redeem this offer visit www.ticketek.com.au/sydneyswans, and use the password FOOTYMATES.

Pretty good idea from the Swans, never seen it offered by an NRL club before.

Not particularly great value IMO but a good idea none the less. It's definitely a lot easier to organsie things like going to the footy with mates if you can get a group deal. There's always one organiser in every group of friends (you know who you are) who would jump all over something like this.

Was going to raise the same idea before, but forgot. No f**ng idea why there aren't more deals like this. Group bookings should be encouraged.

Broncos ticket sales are pretty good at the moment, surprisingly.

Bad news is that rain is meant to set in today and 100 - 200mls is predicted between now and Monday.

Will have a pax by the afternoon.

There have been plenty of 2 for 1 ticket offers this year, and the Bulldogs had a promo for there NZ game that if you buy 5 tickets you got another 5 tickets to the game.

Bennett coming to Brisbane must be a draw of sorts plus the angle of ex broncos coach vs returning broncos coach could do the media rounds in hyping the game. Knights vs broncos by itself is far from a high drawing game but would be above a cronulla/penrith/canberra I think.
