Really, an hour travel would put you off?
What do you expect, that the finals are played in your street?
Not much of a fan.

Meanwhile, down here in Melbourne they are complaining that the the crowd last night was disappointing - only 86,000. Of which half travelled up from Geelong (a little further that Cronulla or Manly). .
Jeez, what is wrong with you Sydney people?

Melbourne is not Sydney
Sydney is not Melbourne

AFL fans in Melb have a desperate clingy need to attend big games even if they do not follow the teams involved.
All the Media down their need to do is attach the Word Blockbuster to a game & Melbournes neutral football fans are lining up along with the teams fans ..
you could add about 20K neutrals to their crowd last night as they has nothing better to do... also it helps that Melbourne is an easy city to get around even on Friday night.

Sydneysiders are not as easily motivated to attend a game not involving their side , They'll watch the game on TV of course , but won't subject themselves to the hassle of attending, certainly on a Friday night. Sydneys NRL sides still wallow in true tribalism & usually genuinely hate opposing sides from Sydney.

The actual fan bases of last nights sides are relatively small being & being isolated to the Sthn & Nthn extremes of Sydney ,while Melbournes AFL teams barely having any geographical identity these days so their fans come from all over , its quite weird....Manly & Sharks fans were never going to attend in big numbers on a Friday night .. plus there were no more then a thousand or so neutrals last night. Culturally our cities & games are quite different & we should really stop comparing the 2.

Gee what a troll post!

*reverse trolls you*

My friday night involved going to a comedy night in the same city

So what's an "acceptable" amount of time for a sydney RL fan to travel to watch their team in a play off game? One hand you say Sydney is all about tribalism yet on the other that tribalism doesn't fire up the fans enough to travel to support their team, or do manly and cronulla really only have 10k fans each who care enough?

To their credit over 600,000 watch on tv in metropolitain Sydney. Just a question, the upper levels which was empty on one side, is that a stadium members area? If so, why aren't they motivated to see a finals match? Would they have had to pay? Or included in membership?

I think stadium members were on the other upper side........ You know, the one that actually had people sitting in it.....

Tonight will be the 50th home game for Storm at AAMI Park.I hope they get a good crowd there tonight but with the tickets being $25.00 more than last nights game I think it will be too expensive for some.

Seeing the game live on tv :D

I would have thought being from Perth you knew all about the "Watching TV culture" over there

After 5pm monday to friday, Perth people finish work, and go home and watch tv, no socialising, no communication with the outside world

That's Perth in a nutshell isnt it?

What are you lot on about. The majority of people who live on the Northern Beaches work in the city or there abouts. SFS is the easiest stadium to get to after work for business folk. ANZ is another matter. No one works in the homebush area. Friday nights are the best time slot for SFS games. Saturday or Sunday for ANZ. AAMI park is one train-stop from Flinders St Station and is pretty easy on any day, they'll get 25k tonight.

Right, f**k the kids, leave them at home while you go to the footy.

Sorry but for people who work in the city they need to go home to pick up the kids before heading back. Potentially a 3 hour round trip, just to get to the game. Do people really think it's only single blokes going to the footy? Even if it was, that would go part way towards explain poor crowds.

I have brought this up before, and that doesn't count apparently when it comes to our games.

They may allow this argument for your side.

There seems to be too much of a negative perception of crowds in the press that it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy in regards to even poorer crowds
