Why "should" there have been more fans? Where in the history of the code is the evidence that just short of 30K is a poor crowd? In fact it is a very respectable turnout.

People have no sense of realism.

30k is pathetic in a city of just under 5 million.

Ok so the NRL now have $100million income a year that they didn't have before so they SHOULD have the money to sort this out and get crowds seriously moving in the right direction. Here's what I'd do for starters:

1. Every team to take 2 home games on the road during the season meaning 10 games at home, clubs compensated for their efforts with $250k per game bonus as part of the discretionary $1.15mill grant currently availble to clubs. Areas targeted are growth, expansion, areas that can draw a min 15k crowd
2. Manly offered $2million a year to change name and take on the whole north shore/northern beaches/CC as its new geographical area with 4 games a year to be played at Gosford
3. Match of the round to be played at Allianz on a Friday night featuring two Sydney teams each round, massive promotion, entertainment and a min 25k target for each game
4. NRL to bring consistency to full memberships by making all clubs offer same price memberships across the competition. 10 home game memberships Prices range from $300 ($40 jnrs) for best seats to $75 ($25 jnrs) for cheapest seats. Gate prices will be no more than $35 for best seats and $15 for cheapest. All U16's $2.50 on gate. Family tickets no more than $75 for 2 adults and 2 children.
5. If you are a full member of a club you can attend any NRL game for 50% discount on gate price and any away game your team is playing in for free
6. Clubs will receive $1million extra a year in grant allowance to cover any lost earnings due to decreased ticket sale
7. Clubs will be set a 10% attendance increase every year in order to get full $1million grant
8. NZ Warriors will have Australian based membership options ie a Warriors Sydney membership that gets Warriors fans in to any game in Sydney featuring Warriors
9. Perth announced as next expansion area and will get 4 games a year guaranteed until the WC Pirates Kick off in 2017. A WC Pirates membership will be available inc the 4 NRL games for a discounted price meaning sell outs for Perth games and a Pirates membership base built up before they kick off
10. NRL will stop scheduling games at crappy times for fans!

Reckon that would cost a max of $18mill a year and see a massive difference in crowds. If it doesn't then we have to admit we are a much smaller sport than we thought and need to except sub 15k crowds as the norm!

Manly change name to Northern Eagles and cover the area from North Sydney to CC.

4 teams for the rest of Sydney. The ARLC has the money to force mergers. Those who refuse should be hung out to dry.

It's no coincidence that the better crowds come out of SFS and ANZ hosted teams considering they are the most accessible. I was in Melbourne three weeks back and Sydney has a lot to learn from Melbourne regards to public transport. Shane Richardson has the right idea when he says all Sydney teams should be looking at using these stadiums in the future. I understand people love their local ground but unless you're a diehard supporter no one else is attending. Clubs should be aiming to attract opposition fans as well as neutrals. Neutrals are more likely to show up at ANZ or SFS over Parra or Campbelltown.

Storm this season are averaging 16,000. While the Swans average 27,000

Good point the crowd difference are not marginal but if the trend continues....

Only a couple of years ago the Storm were playing at Olympic Park, with the some of the best footballers in the world getting an embarrassing sub 10k crowd on regular basis...

At an embarrassing ground that nobody in their right mind wanted to attend.

Also compare the media/tv coverage the swans have been afforded in sydney over the years compared to the Storm in Melb.

Dunno why you'd bag out Parra or Campbelltown.

Parra is the 3rd best stadium in Sydney, and easily upgradable. It ain't too far from a train station either.

Campbelltown is well served by a train station and road transport.

It's brookvale, leichardt and OKI that are not up to the rest. Penrith and Shark park aren't too flash either.

Not a bad crowd but down on their season average

Yes down on average but given it was against the wooden spooners who had no more than 100 fans in the crowd it was a very good effort i'd have thought. Even better given two of the biggest Sydney teams who sit 2nd and 5th on the ladder couldn't even crack 30k in Rugby Leagues heartland. Perspective.

There was about 2000 maybe 2500 at endeavour field for the Cronulla Caringbah v De La Salle A grade semi final.

Stuart Raper, Stuart Mills, Bill Harrigan and Damian Keogh were there to witnes a tough, tough match played in a dust bowl where the players played for a carton of piss at the end of the match. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Fmd. Souths vs dogs doubles most crowds, trebles another and some still say it's shite. That'll do me!

If you're happy two of the biggest Sydney sides in regards to memberships, crowds and support in general who are 2nd & 5th on the ladder a few weeks out from finals and only drawing less than 30k then you're very easy to please.
