We can talk about PAX numbers, whether the Roosters/Manly have many supporters or not all we like but the fact that I can go on the ticketek website 3 days before rugby league's biggest event by far the grand final, ask for 8 adult tickets in the best category and be given the following, seats in prime location on the halfway line:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Area: Eastern Side Category: Diamond Section: 108-1 Row: 9 Seat/s: 32-39 These tickets are currently the best available that match your request ezyTicket 8 x Adult $2,760.00
--------------------------------------------------------------
That to me already says it's a dismal failure!!!
I guess they really were banking on Souths to make the grand final and it's backfired...

Largely agree but I like level 4.

Yeah there are a few mixed responses about Level 4 at ANZ. Some like it but me personally I think it's a bit too high. Great view but you're pretty far away from the action and even if there are 30,000 people at the game but Level 4 is only half full there's very little atmosphere.

Only gold & platinum remain.

Tickets simply too high.

If teams such as Parra & Souths were in, who haven't won it in 30 & 40 years respectively, then Joe Average fan wouldn't mind paying $400 for a ticket, after waiting for decades.

Plenty of silver in level one still available - in roosters bays aswel.

If flights weren't $500 return from Brisbane I would be there with Bells on!

I am a little bit worried about what this crowd will end up looking like. I wonder if there will be easy to see huge blocks of vacant seats in the diamond and platinum sections.

I would go as a neutral, but not for those prices.

It won't sell out, simply because it is the worst combination of teams and high costs.

When you consider that the crowd is probably made up of 60% supporters of the two teams and 40% neutrals it is not hard to see why neutrals might be now seriously considering if $800 (for a couple) is good value for a day out at a GF, especially as you know it is on every year and next years might be more preferable teams to cheer on. Will be very interesting to see if the high prices fo the top seats means they don;t sell, the demand in Sydney isn;t as great as the game might like to think, if it was it would have sold out months ago.

Maybe an answer in the future is to sell tickets to members of clubs early in season under proviso your team gets there? ie you can purchase a ticket at a discounted rate as a member and if your team doesn't get there you can have it bought back at face value. Shame we may need to resort to marketing gimmicks to sell out our showpiece game but apathy in sydney around RL may suggest it will be necessary in future. or fix it so only the well supported clubs reach the final!

Apathy?

When it would cost me $160 to go sit in a corner behind the dead ball line - I'm not going. Not due to apathy. It's just not worth the money.

For neutrals we are seeing two of the most hated Sydney teams, that themselves have small fan bases. Roosters have been in 6 of the last 14 GFs, Manly 4 of the last 7. Combined with high costs it will be no wonder neutrals won't want to go to see teams they hate and are sick of seeing on Grand Final day. The only reason I'm going is because I haven't been to a Grand Final before.
It's up to Roosters and Manly fans to sell this out.

Not when it's Manly and Easts anyway, and definitely not when it was $100 cheaper last year.

Don't forget the 7.15pm kick off time. 5pm would have much more user friendly for attending fans.

I think the time change has impacted on out of town fans for sure!

The game deserves a sellout and it will be a great match but timeslot issues and significant price increases look to embarrass the NRL in 2013.

Well it is a case of supply and demand, the demand isn't great hence why there is plenty of supply. Other sports around the world have no problem selling their showcase finals/events for similiar or more. Why does RL if not from apathy of it's fans? Sure its expensive but no more expensive than a top concert or going to see cirque etc. I think the pricing is too high a step in one go and coupled with lack of fanbase for the game, teams involved and apathy of the fans towards attending the game we have a situation where you will be able to buy tickets on the day. That is a great shame for our game and not a great look. Another "must do better" in the ARLC box.

That's not even an issue. As much as I hate both teams, it will be a good game. I stayed after the Sharks-Cows game for them and it was a great game (though it could have been the multiple beers I had consumed).

But $160 for them? No thanks.

If they want to charge a premium price, they need to offer a premium experience, and Jessica Mauboy is hardly that.

I feel for all the supporters from all the other clubs who rushed out to pay an absolute fortune for all those grand final tickets only to find out their team didn't make it.

Good luck trying to palm them off now, especially those $345 Diamond tickets.

All you have to do is type in nrl grand final tickets into ebay and you get "587 results for nrl grand final tickets" so a lot of tickets for sale floating around.

The bottom line: sucked into all those Souffs supporters who got stuck with Diamond or Platinum that were purchased beforehand assuming they were going to make the GF (and an even huger laugh out to those who are saying "f**k the NRL". The NRL didn't force you to buy those tickets). This year was your best chance of winning a premiership since 1989 you blew it. You guys won't be getting anywhere near a GF for many years to come.

Masochist RLFC always have been.
