Yeh decent crowd at ANZ today, Sharks had about 50 fans there. Next Monday with both teams winning 3/4 to start the year and being on a public holiday, the minimum should be about 30k, lets hope the NRL promote it lolll

Decent? 15,000 is decent?

GC had about 50 fans at our game and our crowd of almost 12k gets ridiculed by some on here yet a game on a sunny Sunday arvo with two teams from the same state gets only a few thousand more gets called decent.
i take some of your point BUT no other sydney team has been in the last 3 grand finals and boasts the claibre of players of Melb.....you have been a highly successful team since inception 12 odd years ago - you have had 12 years to build a supporter base, you have only been beaten at the 'graveyard' a few times in the last 4 years your supporters can safely turn up in the knowledge that you will win - you are a giant in the premiership - how much better could/should it get than that? but still they dont come?

I think your underrating how deflating our last GF was. And you're also forgetting how competitive the market in Melbourne here is with the AFL.

Not to mention the appalling stadium. My main issue with the likes of yourself criticising our crowd is that you are ignoring the main problem that two Sydney teams struggle to get more than 15,000 to a game.

Never been to Olympic Park? It's a hole. Better crowd than I expected for the Storm - I didn't think they'd break 10k.

sorry, i dont buy any of this 'but it's a hole', 'but there are better stadiums in Melb' FACT : the team is a champion team - there is absolutely no excuse not to watch them play - heck I go to ANZ every 2nd week where you need binoculars to see the players and watch a team who i love despite them coming last 3 times in 7 years!!

and Melbourne don't have the luxury of having several decades of building a supporter base in a rugby league town like the Sydney clubs have had. If the Storm still only average the same numbers after 50+ years in the comp then comment on it.

I funniest thing about your comments is they're coming from someone who's team got kicked out of the comp after 90 odd years and 20 premierships because they couldn't draw a crowd and only averaged a pathetic 5-6k a couple years before they got the chop. This from a team close to a hundred years old and the most successful in the history of the league!

I'm happy the Rabbits got re-instated but i'm also glad the Storm are in the comp as well as both have their place. I just wouldn't be bagging them for their crowds given your own team have struggled over the years with the same problem, even with the rich history you've had in a rugby league city. Considering the Storm have to play in an Aussie rules city full of feral AFL fans where the game is a religion and with virtually no tv coverage then i say they're doing very well indeed.

I don't know what everyone's on about re: the Knights crowd. I thought it looked a very good crowd. I'm surprised the figure was only 15k. Even with the stand out of action (and the stand didn't hold that many anyway) it looked like a good crowd. If the capacity is 22k I don't know where the other 7k is going to fit. The southern hill was chockers and the northern hill was pretty full. People are saying there was a lot of empty seats in the Johns Stand but there wasn't that many. A couple of thousand perhaps.

Sharks did NOT have over 1,000 fans at today's game. It was a disgrace. 30k next week...the EA crowd was a bit dissapointing

next week is going to struggle for crowds apart for dogs/souths me thinks.

Roosters v Broncos @ SFS - 15,000
Eels v Dragons @ Parramatta Stadium - 16,000
Sharks v Raiders @ Toyota Stadium - 10,000
Storm v Panthers @ Olympic Park - 11,000
Cowboys v Titans @ Dairy Farmers - 20,000
Knights v Warriors @ EnergyAustralia - 16,000
Sea Eagles v Tigers @ Brookvale Oval - 14,000
Bulldogs v Rabbitohs @ ANZ Stadium - 32,000 (don't wanna be too optimistic but it could be even bigger)

Good Friday... I think anything less and the Roosters should be held accountable.

haha yep, how about you Sharks fans actually get off your a$$es and travel to away sydney games. Besides that one group (and good on them) there are barely any Sharks fans anywhere to be seen.

Yea they are really really poor with traveling, our form doesn't make anyone wanna travel but there is no excuse for not getting there.

One possible reason for this may be that the Sharks dont offer buses to the away games or if they do they are quite expensive from memory. ( Do other clubs offer a cheap bus to the away games?)

I was there, we were few and far between. Had a few Dogs fans try and stir sh*t but in all they were ok, I still stand by my statement that they did inflate the crowd figure. If they posted 20k some would have believed it.

The fact is after just 12 years and in AFL heartland they have more home supporters than 75% of Sydney teams! Take out the away fans and the neutrals and majority of Sydney teams would be below Storm gates.

No doubt after being around for another 10 years, being in a new stadium, finally getting the game on FTA and some profile and they are drawing 20,000+, flat cappers will still moan about their existence whilst making excuses for the games heartlands pathetic crowds.

Decent show by the Panthers, poor enough from the Roos and so so from the Dogs.

There is a recession. Mighty Collingwood got 43,000 at the MCG versus Melbourne opposition. Essendon had their smallest home crowd in years. Al league was way down.

Guys we are in recession so lighten up on the puppies. There were about 14,000 of them there. Not bad at all.

:sleeper: What are we achieving by bashing them?

Have you kept in mind:
- 15,500 apparent capacity
- Carlton v Brisbane @ Etihad across town

? Clearly not. Given crowds earlier this decade, anything 11k+ at Olympic is applaudable.

Off to ANZ shortly, can't wait :D

I was talking about Sydney teams crowds which is what I assumed your original post was about. 11,000 is not a decent crowd but should be tollerated in Melbournes case. Expansion areas should be supported at any cost.
