What teams would he not be an upgrade at

Sharks, Canberra, roosters, storm, cowboys, Brisbane, warriors (even if he's out of form) and probably Penrith. Those sides aren't going to fork out big money for a guy who is not going to be a big upgrade.

The knights and tigers have no salary cap somehow.

That leaves bulldogs and Titans really. Maybe the dragons. I think souths have cap problems of their own or they would be interested.

Hooker is the most important position on the field. He would be on good money. Brisbane might be tempted as cover but I reckon he would be on around 500k and even Brisbane have a salary cap.

Given that over the past few years the Titans have signed Luke Capewell, Beau Champion, Beau Falloon, Dave Taylor, James Roberts, Eddy Pettybourne, Chris McQueen and John Olive (as well as other juniors like Brad Takairangi), it seems that Nathan Peats fits their "must have played for the Rabbitohs" recruitment criteria.

They are just trying to catch up to your 2014 squad. Once they have Burgess and Inglis the premiership is theirs!

would take Peats in a heart beat back at souths. Rabbits have been f**ked over royally by the Isaac Luke release. Let Peats and Koriasau go over the years only for Luke to go with years left on his contract. I know it was good will, but as you say, the 'acting half' (it's not a hooker anymore) is the most important position on the field and Luke's ability at SOuths to get the defence onto the back foot and then allowing the forwards to roll on was a big part of their play over the last few years. Souths can't dominate shit without that facet of play now.

Parra are releasing the wrong man if they go through with it.

If Parra release Peats they're basically saying "we don't want to play for competition points" cos they'll win f**k all without him

Expect them to do exactly what will hurt them the most - it's what they do

Junior Paulo has already signed for Canberra for next season - surely they'd be better off releasing him and retaining Peats who they then have a chance to extend at Parra. They can't extend Paulo

So once again, expect them to do exactly what will hurt them the most

Thing we don't know though is whether Canberra have any room in their cap this year to take Paulo early. It could be why they have not. If someone knows more regarding this and could enlighten us it would be appreciated.

we won 2/3 without him this year and 4/6 with him. It doesn't appear having Peats is a contributing factor. Junior Paulo is still on his rookie contract so won't free up much and the words going around was that we couldn't afford to keep Peats beyond this year as we couldn't meet his asking price.
As much as i'd prefer to keep him, it seems the most logical decision

We've said we could make room if the options there.

Cause he is only on $180k and doesn't free up enough cap space, which means you would still need to get rid of another player. One of the articles went over the Paulo situation.

he only has 6 months to go anyway, makes sense for Peats to be the one

shame though, great player

So basically Parra rort the cap for years, get caught, and look like having to lose Nathan Peats as the only player of note.

Nrl - wet lettuce leaf - Parra.

This is basically a green light to 15 other clubs, that under Greenburgs watch it may well be worth cheating the cap.

Really depends if you have a player who is set to retire on big money who can get you out of it yet you will still lose all your points up to this point, and another player who may end up being key down the road.

So if your running a club, yeah go ahead, I'm sure Parra as a club and their fans are more than happy with the outcome so far.

I think you're vastly underestimating how important Nathan Peats is to this squad

As long as there are people like you that think most bank robbers get caught Santa and the Tooth Fairy will have a place in our hearts

Not really fair, is it.

Cheat cap for years = release broken down guy who can't even walk properly anymore, and a hooker who may make the bench for the stronger teams in the comp.
