Spotlight on Dallas Cowboys RT Doug Free
By Rainer Sabin
rsabin@dallasnews.com
3:00 pm on September 28, 2013 | Permalink

Not too long ago it seemed right tackle Doug Free’s job was in jeopardy. He had surrendered the most sacks on the Cowboys in 2012 at the same time he committed the highest number of penalties in the league. He was then forced to take a sizable pay cut in May.

Flash forward to the present and Free is rated the best offensive tackle in the NFL by ProFootballFocus.com.

He has conceded only half of a sack and hasn’t been flagged once in 2013.

“I don’t know if there is any real difference from last year or what,” Free said. “I have been playing good. Still, there are a lot of things you’ve got to keep focusing on, keep working on. It’s never a one-and-done kind of thing. You’ve got to prove yourself each and every week. It’s a continual thing.”

Free is part of an improved offensive line that has allowed 11 knockdowns – the second-fewest in the NFL.

“Doug’s done a nice job,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s responded really well…. He really has been impressive since the start of OTAs, really trying to take advantage of the opportunity. I think he’s working on some technical things that will help him. I think he’s playing tougher and he’s staying on blocks, both as a pass protector but also in the run game.”

http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/2013/09/sotlight-on-dallas-cowboys-rt-doug-free.html/

It's only three games, but Free is having a Pro Bowl year. The Cowboys OL is much improved on last year.

Phil Simms defends Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo: Haters need to be quiet

On if Tony Romo deserves blame for the Cowboys’ loss to the Broncos:
Simms: “I’ll just say this, it was a great game. 48 points. I wish I had a talk radio today myself so those haters could call in, and I could give them a piece of my mind. Were you watching what he did? He had every imaginable throw in the game that you could want to do as a quarterback. His movement was fantastic. And the people that go oh, it’s the typical Tony Romo, be quiet! I’ve watched basically every game of his career, and he’s come through in the clutch many more times than he has not. It’s always the same. Oh, we’ll see. 48 points. Over 500 yards. I think there is another reason the Cowboys lost besides Tony Romo.”

Gannon: “You know what we heard from Cowboy fans. They’re frustrated with Tony Romo. They’re fed up with Tony Romo down the stretch. They have no idea what happens. They don’t understand how difficult it is to make a first down. They have a short memory. Think about last year. Tony Romo engineered five fourth quarter or overtime comebacks. You look at yesterday and how well he played in that game. They’re not talking about how poorly the defense played in that game. They gave up 500 yards to Phillip Rivers and San Diego. They gave up 500 yards to the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning and 51 points. Tony Romo can’t do it all. That’s what the fans in Dallas have to figure out.”

Beuerlein: “Let me tell you guys something, I am not a hater. I respect Tony Romo for everything that he does. He makes all the throws. He moves around great. He makes plays that very few quarterbacks in the league can make. But at the same time, I texted our producer, Tony Romo is winning the over. He’s going to win big in a big game. Oh my goodness, what happened? He did it again. He has thrown more interceptions to end big ball games than anybody I’ve ever seen. I love Tony Romo. I want him to win those games. He deserves it. He deserves to get the monkey off his back. But he’s done it so many times. You can say there was pressure. There was this. There was that. He’s lost a lot of games with a terrible mistake at the very worst time. He’s done it very many times. That’s all I can say.”

Ware injured, Dallas sign new DE

With the injury to DeMarcus Ware the Cowboys have signed Jarius Wynn. He stands 6-3 and weighs 285 pounds.

Wynn was drafted in the 6th round of 2009 draft by the Green Bay Packers with whom he spent three seasons with. He spent tome time during 2012 with Tennessee before signing with San Diego earlier this season. The Chargers recently released him.

All up he has played 48 games and has 7.5 career sacks

To make room on the roster for Wynn the Cowboys have released DT David Carter and CB Chris Greenwood.

Addition to the Practise Squad

The Cowboys have signed running back Davin Meggett to the practice squad. He is the son of former NFL star Dave Meggett.
