Raider just hates it because Johns won it 3 times :sarcasm:

went very bloody close to a 4th and 5th too. missed one through a 2 week suspension and another through missing half the year of football i believe.

i agree with raiders sentiment that it's credibility is questionable though. it's basically a popularity contest.

I swear some of you so called 'Rugby League fans' have absolutely no idea.

Whether Matt Orford wins it this year or not is not the reason I am posting.

Look at some of the guys who have won it since its inception in 1968.

Andrew Johns 3 times
Mick Cronin 2 times
Peter Sterling 2 times
Johnathan Thurston 2 times
and some other winners include
Alan Langer
Brad Fittler
Waynes Pearce
Ricky Stuart
Graham Eadie and
Steve Rogers.

Any good players in that bunch????? as far as some of you are concerned NO

Maybe you guys should actually watch some Rugby League games

I think it usually is a good indicator of the best player for the year.

Although sometimes players for a certain club are gifted the 3.

Last year I was hoping Farah would win, but I reckon there were a couple of games where he got the 3 were he prob shouldn't I also reckon Thurston got a few extra votes that he should have.

I have never really closely studied the voting in other years so I can't comment on that.

All in all though, I think it is a good indicator of the best players for that year.

There's no denying past winners have been and are great players and i'm certainly not disputing that. As i've stated, Orford has been one of the best players in the comp so far this year but does it instantly make him the best just because he's so far leading the table? Personally i think Prince is shading him in the best player department but again it's all subjective and only my opinion.

What happens if Orford goes on to win it by 1 vote playing every possible game over a bloke who's ineligible for 3 games and can't poll any votes because of origin commitments? Does that make him a better player polling 1 more vote than a player who had 3 less opportunities to poll?

Personally i think the bloke who finished 1 vote behind would be the better player because it's hardly unreasonable to suggest that he'd have made up the the 2 votes needed of a possible 18 on offer.

I understand that's the rules but IMO it's just another reason why the Dally M doesn't always necessarily go to the best player. Always in the top handful yes, but not always the very best given the many variables there are. That's just my opinion and i don't really care if others agree or not, it's only the way i see it.

Dally M is just about the only thing Fittler hasn't won actually.

Anasta won't win the thing Monk, but he'l come damn close and he will get 5/8th of the year. Stick it to the haters Braith

Origin players can get Dally M points, so there goes that idea.

If you think Dally M is controlled by the media and is political, than Origin is twice as bad. Cross, Quinn and Hornby? WTF?!

Fair enough i read it wrong, but even so as mentioned and i agree that it's a bit of a popularity contest. Again, only good players win it but IMO not always the best players. You and others might see it differently which is totally fine but i don't.

It doesn't bother me how other people rate it so it shouldn't really bother anyone else how i rate it or how i see it. Just like everyone else's around here, my opinion just isn't that important

Thats what makes it even more of an acheivement for Orford so far, as he is no Mr Popularity I can tell you. He is actually playing very good football at the moment and him and Prince would probably be the 2 form halfbacks so far this year. Dally M polling seems to indicate this.

2 weeks ago, him alongside Lyon, both their kicking games were way off. Yet both of them scored points.

I thought there were far better performers in the side than their halves that day.

Dally M seems to me that if you play well in the first 6-8 weeks of the comp, bag some points, then you're more likely to bag points throughout the whole comp, irrespective of performance. You establish that popularity at the start of every season. Everyone wants to back a winner I suppose.

Orford has been playing well, but best playing in the competition at the moment? That's a bit of a stretch.

his contant non-selection in the NSW team is proof of that, he's their second or third choice half back and the past couple of weeks he's been playing at in my opinion Origin standard but I'm biased.

First off, i agree that Orford is playing pretty good footy this year but IMO Prince has been better, even Slater has been better as well i think. And just because Orford isn't popular around here amongst your average everyday footy fan doesn't instantly mean he's not popular with the journo's who vote. Just because some of the voters don't think he's up to playing rep footy and he chokes in big games (eg finals) doesn't necessarily mean they think he's a dud in club games where he's polled well.

In your opinion it's more of an achievement for him as you stated but that doesn't mean it is or make it so. Just like my opinion on things doesn't mean much at all to you and others who disagree with it as well. You can put the award up there with the greatest and most coverted in the world if you want and that's entirely up to you, but it shouldn't bother you one bit what i think of it as it obviously does. Though i suspect that has more to do with your man crush on Ox than what it does me questioning the validity of the award.

Maybe not the best, but one of the best.

Wouldn't it of been good to have seen the 2 best halfbacks on form, playing in the SOO? It would of made for a much more interesting contest.

Orford probably will not win the Dally M but if he does Manly will be very doing well. I also believe Prince has been playing better.

As far as halves go Orford is around the 4th or 5th best at the moment imo, I have him ahead of Carney, Mullen, Wallace etc as they are still young and have only shown potential. Although I do not doubt they will pass him in the near future.

the Dally M has a hoodoo attached to it in 2005 and 2006 the Dally M winner was in the GF and their team lost.

there's always game 2 for Orford and Prince, there will most probably be a rethink for the team that loses.

In keeping things simple I have Orford as 2nd. Same as our table position.
