I don't understand all the hate.
He played well all year and deserved it.
Some people may say Slater was unlucky but he was the 1 running around like a dh in the game against Saints.

Watch for the Dally M Grand Final curse to strike again!

2007 - Thurston - preliminary final
2006 - Smith - lost grand final
2005 - Thurston - lost grand final
2004 - Buderus - missed finals
2003 - not held
2002 - Johns - preliminary final
2001 - Campbell - preliminary final
2000 - Barrett - missed finals

In fact, only two players have won the official player of the year award and a premiership in the same season - Langer (1992) and Lamb (1984).

Manly - gooorne

why this award is a joke

hindmarsh 18 points
parra lost so many matches, when the journos were doing there points
3points to a winning player
2points to a wiining player
1point to a LOSING player hindmarsh

nothing against the bloke ..just so b'grade these awards

Just Imagine if Parra Won as many games as manly.. He would clean up..

I dont know how Tongue dint get the gong for hooker/half/second row/Fullback or even 5/8 he played them more then he did lock...

Who cares what you keyboard heroes think. Orford has won it. If it meant nothing, then why is this thread so long?

One thing for sure, based on everybodies reaction, we finally have a Dally M chosen on a players performnce over the year and not based on popularity, because if it was, Orford would not have won.

You don't have to win to get 3 points.
Some winning teams get all points, it varies each game

Congrats Orford on the Dally M and the other players for their awards!

And naturally, as Newy supporter, I'd like to a give a big congratulations to Danny Buderus for polling 21 points, 3 off the leader and 4th overall, despite only playing 15 games! (Each of the players above him played 5 + more games than him) Some nice recognition for a great year

It wouldn't be right if a player that was Sin Binned twice in a season (once for fighting and once for a professional foul) won the best and FAIREST award...hold on...it happened last year with Thurston. They either need to rename it "Player of the year" or make rules about Sin Binnings.

Must be why he played all those rep games this year.

Yeah because rep jumpers are given out on form? Not real bright are you. White played 3 origins, he should have gone close to Dally M prop of the year then.

Only second rower who cam close to Stewart was Heighington imo, he would have been a worthy winner as well.

 well said. I don't think the dally m curse is our biggest worry for the premiership, I think Melbourne are.

Oh and Glen Stewart is completely deserving of his award, he has been outstanding this year.

In my opinion, Laffranchi>Hino>Stewart. Any of the 3 would be a worthy recipient.

good stuff to see tonguey finally get some recognition with two gongs. i expected him to win captain of the year but was quite surprised and pleased to see him win lock as well. congrats to best as well - him and monaghan are largely the reason why we've scored so many points this season.

campese was dead set robbed though.
