Why is it called the Dally M and not the Dally Messenger award? How dumb would it sound if they came up with an award called the Wally L or Andrew J? It's like some US Basketball nickname. It's appropriate for though for the farcical nature of the awards that fail to reward players in poor teams and somehow players in the best teams too. They are unique in this respect.

The way players are awarded points is a farcical joke. Until 1998, the Official Player Of The Year (Rothmans Medal until 1996, Provan-Summons in 1997) had points awarded by the referees. Since the NRL was formed, the Dally M's(which started in 1980) became the official award so we have News Ltd journalists deciding who the best player in the game in.

I agree 100%. I have a feeling a lot of people are commenting on your reputation rather than on the merit of what you`re saying. It`s silly and childish to call it Dally M. Is it so hard to say the entire name? Or is it hard to spell?
