David Gallop stands down as CEO

I am really disappointed in nearly every Storm fan I know. They are celebrating tonight and to be fair, he did a lot more good than bad for the NRL. He did take everything from us, while I don't 100% agree with the reaction or SOME of the penalties, I do understand his position and I have accepted it. I think its great for our game but Gallop does not deserve some of the abuse he is coping. I wish him well.

Gallop was a sinecure to the end.

Have to laugh at those defending him, absolutely no idea.

Look at this way. We are currently negotiating the biggest and most important contract in the games history.
If you where the the CEO, would you pull the pin on yourself at this juncture?

No doubt he was pushed out the door, and the game will be better off with someone who does the job that the role entails.....Looking after the game and making decisions with foresight.

I would like to see the KPIs of his regime (crowd numbers, TV ratings, game revenues)... I would be surprised if the result isn't quite a favourable reflection of his performance.

Roll out the red carpet for the next big hope in sports adminstration, Michael Searle....

I have no doubt under Gallops reign the game has grown and seen improvements. But people can see that the potential has not been reached. The game could be leaps and bounds ahead of where it is now had we had a more forthright leader, IMO.

Now that's a good idea.

Well for total crowd averages (home & away + finals) best years ever were
2010
2005
2011
2009
2012 to date
2007
2006
2008
2004
2003
2000 - first Non Gallop year
1994
1999
1995
1993
2002 - Gallop's first year
2001
1968

So in other words 9 of his 10 years (not even including this year) were the best ever for crowd averages

Gallop did the right job at the time he was appointed. The game was running from one disaster to another when he took over, Gallop steadied the business and grew it in a slow conservative way. It worked at that time.

He made plenty of mistakes especially the last 5 years, because I think the game outgrew his style of management. He always had a safe job as long as News ltd were in charge, but realistically I think he's been out of his depth for a while now.

Now with the IC and no News ltd he's even further out of his depth. The game needs to explode forward and his slowly, safely style was never going to work in that environment.

Well this was out of the blue aye.

I have to think he was pushed. There's no other explanation for how sudden it was. Lets hope this means good things for League.

4 months into a 4 year contract, of course he was pushed out.

That may be more likely, but I wouldn't say "of course" just yet.

If he's unemployed for a while then you're right. But if he so happens to land a sweeter gig elsewhere...

WTF, he was a useless merkin years before the Storm scandal.

You could make a strong case they had nowhere to go but up when he took over.

This is spot on.

Wow, what a pleasant surprise!
Wonder if they have had to pay him out? Would love to have been a fly on the wall at that meeting!

The game has pretty much stagnated for the last 5 years under his reign, badly needs a true leader that looks and sounds the part and has a vision for how to turn the ARLC's strategies into reality.

At long last a truly independent management of the game, no more excuses lets grow the fricker to the potential we know it has!
