The problem is most matters take over 12 months at a minimum to go from charging to trial. Is it fair for him to sit out for an entire year? Maybe it is. It's a tough one.
Insanely tough decision. Really a no win situation for the NRL. He plays and gets found guilty then they'll cop it. He's banned and gets found innocent they'll cop it. Can't recall a tougher decision, maybe the Brett Stewart one?

There’s nothing tough about it. He’s innocent till proven guilty. When it goes to trial it’s up to the Crown to prove guilt. The NRL isn’t above the law.

If the NRL banned him now they’d be in a shit storm of trouble if found not guilty.

And if found guilty at trial then he’ll have bigger things to worry about than playing footy.

In a public sport that relies on fan participation it isn’t so black and white unfortunately.

Particularly with 2 of them.

They will defend each other.

The NRL probably wants to stand him down but have seen these outcomes before.

It looks like the NRL will stand him down before he fronts court, and this is why the NRL is a circus, Greenberg governs by what he thinks people want, he says this 24 hours after a poll said 65% said Debelin should be stood down.

But Bolton guilty nothing, Inglis guilty nothing Greenberg gives him reference, Lodge is playing.

The game is at a point where the fans are giving up, this crap just goes on and on

Really only tells us that fans are dumb, self serving, have no understanding of the legal processes (which would be different for each case) and love a conspiracy theory.

Take the emotion out of it and remove the Sharkoggles.

Can’t stand the bloke, never have - probally for something as bad as the top knot. Dunno
But... he is on a hiding to nothing dealing with the NRL - they change there minds more often on any matter because of the fear of public ridicule. Some poll says the fans are angry - right lets over turn out original decison and ban him. More bad headlines - the nrl have the nerve to bag out the players for creating a bad vibe and bad press - when ultimately they are part of the problem
How Greenberg is still in charge is anyone’s guess.

Money talks. Sponsors don’t like the bad press this case brings. Can’t blame them for suspending him tbh

With Greenberg/Beattie making decisions anything is possible, i dont trust either one of these guys, neither of them has any integrity.

Lets say debelin is suspended but found innocent, he should be able to sue the NRL for improper conduct, and having his name made out to be mud

He wouldn’t win if he sued. He wouldn’t be out of pocket, he’d be suspended on pay. It wouldn’t be improper conduct either. They are allowed to protect the game. Guilty or innocent, de Belin is bringing the game into disrepute. There’s your misconduct.

Out of dozens of NRL players who have been suspended on pay tell me one who has sued the NRL.

Plenty of professions stand down their enployees on full pay while shit like this gets sorted in the courts.

This might not go to trial for three years of defence knows he is f**ked and want to delay it as much as possible.

Or try and get it dealt with in the off season when the spotlight is away from the spirt ala Scott BOLTON.

Stand them down, if they're found not guilty automatically extend their contract for the time they sat out. Hooray.

It's not Greenberg's decision, although he'll no doubt have input.Any change to the rules re stand downs, will be decided by the Commission on 28th Feb.
This time sponsors are pushing from all sources, even channel 9 is ropable,
many of the clubs and apparently fans. The cost to the code re sponsorships has been massive according to club bosses. And we should know.
The only way IMO is ,he is stood down on full pay, bringing the game into disrepute (thus not stating his guilt or innocence), leaving the court to decide outcome.

I do agree Greenberg created a rod for his own back, re Lodge and Barba earlier on.And the Carneys.

The crap, is the fault of the thick as brick players ,who don't get it.Why put yourselves in a position to get to whatever.

Agree the nrl can’t just wade in and suspend JDB. What they should have done was work behind the scenes with St George to make damn sure he didn’t play...rest him on full pay for his own good. But my guess is the nrl did nothing and are now shitting bricks
