dissapointing statement made by fans last night

With 12000 presold tickets I would imagine we have thousands of fans kicking themselves right now. They had a golden ticket and didn't turn up at the chocolate factory. That's their bad luck but it is not for me to judge them or make any of them feel any worse than they possibly already do. I must admit that I was bitterly disappointed at the time to look around and see an almost empty stadium but in hindsight feel incredibly privileged to have witnessed such a memorable night and be able to say I was there supporting our team and giving the Storm my two cents worth.

I normally sit in the Northern Terrace, while the atmosphere would have been great last night, I think I probably got a better view of everything in front of the TV last night due to the fact there's no visible big screen from the Northern Terrace and whenever something happens down the other side of the field I always think "WTF just happened... what's going on". So In a way I regret not going due to the awesome atmosphere I missed, but then at the same time I've got no regrets due to the fact I was able to watch every single minute of action without missing a single part.

I sat in the Northern Terrace and didn't miss a single part.
The reason? There were so few people there that when I wanted to see a replay, I just ran out of my seat and up the aisle and watched it on the big screen.

I should have taking a camping chair along and had the best of both worlds.

Well i wasn't there on Friday night .Partly because of the weather and partly because I had just completed five 5 bloody hard days at work and knew that I would have a long wet drive home on a fairly dangerous road if I did.

I realise that I missed a great game and will admit that as I watched the replay wished to god that I was there. But in the end I would not have gone.
I do not consider myself a bandwagoner and don't give a flying fig what others want to call me.

Btw I was going to go to the Swans game as well today ,but decided against it because of the weather-now wish I went there too .

Oh well.

Well you're definitely not a real fan then SC.

I have been reliably informed that in order to qualify as a true blue, non-bandwagon Eels fan you had to be at Parramatta Stadium on Friday, June 4, 2010.

Like many on here, you just jump straight to conclusions about why people didn't go.

For many, going to a game in torrential rain isn't an option.
For me, well, I had plans that night that couldn't be broken. Had nothing to do with the rain. But then, I said that many posts ago.

If you want to get into a pissing contest about how many games either of us have been to, be it Parramatta or any other NRL games, then I win.

But I'm not into crapping on about how 'I'm a bigger Eels fan than you' and all that crap. It's moronic. I actually thought you were above that rubbish MITS.

Apparently not.

See, this is where your assumptions get the better of you. I have never said I am better than anyone, nor do I know how one would judge such a thing.

BTW I am getting over 100 games of footy a year and have been involved at a Junior Club since I was 10, so I have seen my share of league, but I am not getting into a pissing contest.

If a "Torrential" downpour hours form kick off rules you out, then that is to bad for you. But you were the one who missed out.

I personally have missed a few games due to other events in my life, but if I do miss a for that reason I don't prattle on about the rain, if it is raining. I just say, well couldn't make it life got in the way.

I don't jump to conclusions, I draw them from my over 10 years of being a season ticket holder and going to Parramatta Stadium. Parramatta fans and I will agree with Fishy, Sydney sports fans in general are fickle. If they are not guaranteed a win in great conditions they will not turn up. But I also think that Parramatta fans are more susceptible to that, which is why this seasons early season crowds surprised me a little. For mine normal service resumed on Friday night.

Personally I don't think a bandwagon fan would get on a site like this and post about the team.

But I do think Real fans (as in those that fanatically support their club) would.

If you don't turn up to a game doesn't mean your a band wagoner, but if you don't go, when you have tickets and parking, and the time, an opportunity, to get to the game, because your not guaranteed a good night (because of form or weather or crowd safety) then I will call anyone that does that fickle.

Fortunately for you, you can feel like a real fan because your life got in the way.

Yes I'm aware of all of this MITS. Just as you should be aware that the rain had nothing to do with me not being there, given that I've mentioned it 15 times.

Also, I never said that you said you were better than anyone. I said that you and others seem to believe that you're 'bigger Eels fans' because you were at Parramatta Stadium on Friday night. Which is hilarious.

It's almost like an ego thing for some around here. Poor people.

The question in red was immediately qualified by the answer in black.
No wonder people get their backs up.

Fair points... but the tv deal funds the NRL not the club. The grant is the same for every club so signing up to Foxtel doesn't help Parramatta specifically.

Also you're ignoring the value of sponsorship. Great crowds equals higher paying and more sponsors.

The TV deal funds the NRL & the NRL disperses the cash to the clubs. It is not done proportionally. It is a socialist method of wealth distribution, but it is what the sport got & deserves after folding its strong hand to Superleague. Individual clubs & success do not matter - it is the "code" that matters first and foremost. This translates to "TV product" that matters first and foremost. It's the way it is.

Sponsors are even more affected by TV numbers. Why would a sponsor be concerned about getting their name in front of 20K max people at the ground, when they are looking at a TV audience of hundreds of thousands? The TV ratings sell sponsorships, not the number of fans that like live footy.

Poor form is never a reason not to go. Many of us here would well remember going to every single Eels game in the mid-90s knowing it would be a good day if we only lost by 30.

But the rain is a good reason for many. Not normal rain, but that crap we copped on Friday certainly. If I'd been there that night I'm sure I would have had to swim from Parramatta Pool to the back gate.

These sorts of threads where someone thinks they're more devoted than someone else are a waste of time . I was happy to make the effort to go to the game and was rewarded with a fantastic performance from the team and a great result.
Those who chose not to go , or were unable to for whatever circumstances , bad luck , I don't think any less of you , I'm just sorry you missed a great night.
I went through the same conundrum for the Dogs game . Fully intended to go , along with a Doggies supporter mate , but had to stay home for my son's 7th birthday.
I don't think that makes me any less dedicated , and I sure as hell regretted not being there to savour the night in person!

Great thread, you are spot on!!!

Was never going to miss this game. Even if it hailed. And those who went were rewarded with fantastic weather and a brilliant result from the boys.

Those who sat at home in front of the heater could do nothing but listen to the radio and/or wait for 9:30, so deal with it.

Nup. I watched it live on the net. :p

LOL at everyone who are acting like this thread is a personal attack on them. The facts are that we got 7k for a home game which was a GF replay against the team that have found to have cheated us out of a possible premiership.

Putting your personal circumstances aside, you must concede that it was a piss poor crowd and without a doubt 10k short of what it should have been. There is a obvious problem here, yes or no ?
