the damage is not in believing it, as sad as that is for the individual, it’s acting on that belief. Folau can believe whatever he likes, but as soon as he starts preaching that belief openly and in doing so feeding an anti gay paradigm of society then Houston we have a problem.

Thanks for being completely off the mark again. The bible doesn't merely state they would end up in hell. Rather it states that they "shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them". So stop trying to suggest that the bible is lighter.

Also please stop intentionally ignoring the fact that the issue with Folau is a series of statements and events that have intentionally targeted the LGBTQI community.

As you’ve rightly pointed out, many religions are filled with bigotry directed towards the LGBTIQ community.

The beauty of living in a secular society is that religious bigotry has limits in public discourse. These limitations are not exclusive to Christianity, and cover all judeo-Christian faiths, as well as other religious beliefs.

I take great pride in the fact that I live in a community that protects those that have historically borne the brunt of bigotry from religious groups, while also allowing people to practice their beliefs in private.

My beautiful friends from the queer community are entirely undeserving of persecution from anyone, let alone a high profile sportsperson.

I think some people are being a little too self-righteous here.

Do we really honestly believe that Israel Folau is the only homophobe in rugby league? If you do, you have obviously not been around a rugby league team. Im not saying that is the right attitude, Im saying that is the way things are. The fact that only two professional players in the history of professional rugby league that have come out backs that theory up. Those two only came out in the prime of their careers.

The big difference is, Folau made his views public. That is unacceptable behaviour in our society which led to his sacking from Australian rugby.

I totally disagree with Folau's views. However, our game has given players second chances for some pretty horrible incidents. If Folau keeps his bigoted ideas to himself and does not air them in public, I am okay with a club giving him a second chance. Don't pretend that every teammate of his is not a bigot in some way. Some (especially if they were religious) would have a negative view of homosexuality. The difference is that they would not post those views for public domain.
If he does post those views again, Im all for a club tearing up his contract.
