Its not about burning the store to the ground, its about having laws that ensure that people cant discriminate against someone. How would you feel if you were in another country and someone refused to serve you because you where white (if you are?)? Now imagine if that was ok and happened every day numerous times a day, you couldnt get work, get served or get a bus. Seriously that is where your logic seems to be going, do you honestly believe that would be ok?

Why the f**k am I doing there? I'd be getting the hell out of there asap.

Do I think that would be a good situation? Not particularly. The people there would be assholes. But how would I go about changing it? One way would be to change the culture. Talk. Change minds. Convince people peacefully. That would be great. Other option is I could call in those with guns to force those who wouldn't serve me to do so at the pain of arrest, violence, fines or whatever. I don't believe the latter response is a moral one and that's ultimately what anti discrimination is. If they won't change my best option is to get out.

That said given Israel has lost all prospects of a job in his specialised field over this, I think it's safe to say your hypothetical doesn't apply in this instance.

I never knew that merkins could do that!

Whilst Im here, I DO NOT condone what Folau said and I totally understand how it would possibly impact a young gay guy (particularly if he was christian) but I have to say I feel uncomfortable when Packer, Lodge, Au'va et al are "welcome" in our game but a guy who states his religous beliefs in a tweet is told he isnt welcome.

Thats because
A) we are inclusive of all, inc ex crims, except bigots
B) they did their time and repented, well some did
C) people are more upset by bigots than wife beaters, it would seem

Maybe women need to kick up a bigger stick about women beaters and the NRL would feel the same way as they do about homophobes?

If you say you don't condone what Folau said, and you understand what impact his words could have, why do you later minimise what he's done to "stating his religious beliefs in a tweet"?

There is far more to it than him "stating his religious beliefs", he was openly discriminating against several classes of people.

I reckon a lot of NRL fans are probably uncomfortable with those three men still being able to play which is fine too - but I don't think that should preclude the NRL from taking a stance against allowing someone like Folau back either.

And it's worth noting the NRL has a new approach to people who are charged with the offences Packer, Lodge and Auva'a have previously found guilty for and will be far less forgiving in the future.

Maybe the NRL did take that action two weeks before the start of this season?

Apparently Folau is ready for a fight with RA. Time to buy some popcorn and beer. This could be fun. A few sportspeople have come out and criticised some of his own personal behaviours as well. Not such a saint maybe?

Did he miss the "let he who is without sin" chapter?
By the looks of it he only misinterprets volume 1 of that particular holy book. Jesus was a much nicer and more tolerant man than Folau is. Issy wouldn’t be able to cope with all this love your neighbour crap :flag_white:️‍:rainbow:

I am cynical when it comes to the NRL administration and in particular Beattie & Greenberg but I agree with what you are saying, it seems that they are taking a harder line on dickheads and that is to be welcomed, the test will always be when a high profile, young player gets in strife. If its a consistent approach, Ill applaud it and also be very comfortable with blocking a Folau return.

<EDITED> I was wrong about some of the stuff that Folau posted, but still pretty clearly his religious beliefs.

Really hope he comes back and plays for us. Welcome him with open arms. Just play footy bro, it's what you're hired to do.
