As long as the social media he uses isn't RU & is a personal account, he should be able to express his religious views.

Of course.

But the profile he used is a verified profile. Obviously when people viewed that post they knew it was Israel Folau, Australian Rugby Union player. I would not be surprised as well to see on his previous player profile on their official websites links to these profiles.

I know this may come as a surprise, but my real name is not Iafeta. I have a twitter handle, and it’s not my real name or anything related to real name. More to the point, you couldn’t look at my profiles and see where I work.

Folau could have done the same

See that is the thing with freedom of expression, you don't get to decide that someone can't say something because you do not agree with it.

I do not agree with Folau, in fact I believe the complete opposite and think he is a dumb asshole for his beliefs.

@Perth Red s point is spot on the mark here.

But who is deciding that? If Israel agrees to adhere to a code of conduct that includes being respectful to people's choice of lifestyle and sexual orientation in exchange for money then again, who is deciding?

Does Israel have the freedom to enter into this agreement? If Israel agreed to this and then does not adhere is he still entitled to the money that he wants as part of the agreement?

Having an opinion does not make someone right or wrong, but it is a human right that he is allow to hold any opinion he wishes without restriction!

So if I went to a public forum where I knew I had hundreds of thousands of eyes looking at my every move, is it ok if I start trying to get a Nazi movement going? Or would you be ok if I started talking up ISIS actions on Australians?

There has to be a line. There has to be restrictions. Otherwise you risk bedlam and anarchy.

Not on opinion there isn't! There is on expression but I do not think that Folau's comments fall under those restrictions!

This is the crux of the issue and I cannot believe the amount of people that don't understand this.

Go up to your boss tomorrow* and call him a merkin. As he goes to sack you tell him it's your right to your opinion and there is no right or wrong to it.

*assuming you even have a job

So if I walk into the office tomorrow, put up a swastika at my desk, and express Aryan race superiority, that’ll be ok. Because as you say, I’m just expressing my opinion, right?

I can hold that opinion, and unless I can prove he is a merkin than that is defamation which is a restriction on expression?
