That 2 Lock Strategy does work in theory. But when Wagon refuses to pass and one of the locks doesnt really play a running game it dies. IMO we would have done a lot better if our forwards were more dominant this season.

maybe the 2 lock strategy would work if we had "bobcat" at five-eight!! ;-)

the 2 lock strategy would work but! This is how it would need to be:

1.Reddy
6.Wagon
7.Smith
9.Riddell
13.Mateo
14.Marsh

you got 5 play makers in the side. You dont NEED to have a play maker at 5/8 as long as you got guys at hooker, Lock and Fullback who can assist the halfback.

on the wing, thats not what i think the team will look like. That just what i think would work if you are going to have wagon at 5/8. Have a Fullback with the skills of a 5/8 Ie Hodgo

Mckinnon could have done a whole lot more this season if someone had given him the ball. Half the games he was in the opposition line jogging back after not getting the ball. A few sides use the 2 lock strategy. Seriosuly how many traditional 5/8's are there left in our game. Most start at lock and change over sometime in their career.

Hopefully thats where Marcus Perenera can help us out. The only traditional 5/8 thats left in the game i think is Barrett.

Barrett is a lock. Scott Hill is more a five eight than Barrett however he ends up at lock in rep games.

Daley, Johns and Fittler were the last of the true 5/8's......

Barret surely played lock and centre I think :? . I think Scott Hill is the only one left. Fittler started in the centres but was probably more of a pivot than Barrett.

So OVP what's your tip for us next year?

Definite top 8. Most likely 7th spot, but i wouldnt be surprised to see Parra finish higher than that too.

Btw Eelementary i meant nothing against you by tipping you to go close to the spoon last year. Sure Smith went for size, but its more the quality or calibre of player that he signed that led me to believe that. Dont take offence mate, just stating why i thought that. This year will be vastly different i believe. Morrison, Stringer (if he stays on the field), Riddell, Marsh are all of the highest quality.

I'm not confident we will make the 8 next year. I think we have the side to, but I really do feel that we need a fresh approach in coaching. Mainly for some of the veterans.

Nah I'm offended. I just don't see why your props need to be big AND have all of Johns' skills?

To me, a great prop is big, ugly, aggressive and strong. And MAYBE has a good offload. That's it.

Pearson and co. on paper fitted that bill.

I'm still worried about having a halves combination that gels,

I'm still worried about a halves combination that contains Wagon.

Nobody seems to be ruling that out??

Exactly, after the combination that came out for this year's trials it still wouldn't surprise at all...

I wouldnt rule it out for a few rounds, until Smith gets a bit of game time in Prems. I would just like to see Smith keep that position throughout the trials and swap during the games with Marsh.
