Hmmmmmmmm.
Probably a reasonable decision to make when they were very early in their tenure. In hindsight it probably wasn't a good decision but it is what it is.
The bit about learning lessons from The Storm is a bit self indulgent. Im not sure hes learned too much at all from those experiences.
The short kick off with 20 to go was probably one of the worst decisions I've seen. We absolutely panicked which shows we really haven't learned too much at all.
Hopefully we can rebound next season. Massive roster changes within the 30 so I'm figuring there will be a huge reliance on the same top 13. I guess it can go one of two ways. We live in perpetual hope.

It seems we are an eerily similar team to 2017. Got out to a good lead against Melbourne in the first week of the finals to get beaten. Then in week 2 against a team lower than us on the ladder we take a nice lead into half time to again get flogged in the second half. Seems we have learnt no lessons.
He still makes basic errors that you would expect from a rookie coach not a bloke in his 7th season. He has always been horrible with his use of the bench.

The loss to the cowboys in 2017 sucked bad .... this loss to Souths was the expected result - infact many people also believed it might be an ugly flogging

The main reason people expected us to lose was because we are chokers. Sure we had injuries to our outside backs but so did souths. They were missing 3 outside backs too - Latrell, Bayden Burns and James Roberts. The difference is that punters generally know Wayne Bennett coached teams get up for big matches at the right time of year. Eels teams under Brad Arthur not so much.

i don't agree that they thought we'd lose cos we are chokers ... its because souths have been playing very well of late

their current backs have played many games together - ours none .... not a good comparison

 the usual suspects want the coach’s head on a spike. We lost the right to play off for the GF because of a few instances of bad luck / poor focus by two players at crunch time and that they had the NSW hooker who is at the peak of his powers.

Big Mal says we should be proud. Sad that our fans are not.

Big Mal makes BA sound like Nikola Tesla.

Is there a point arguing BA's fate? He is signed till 2022, so regardless of whether he should be replaced is kind of irrelevant.

For me he needs to make some tough calls next year on his assistants and recruit players who will make us better, he won't be sacked for next year but his decisions will decide whether he is moved on after 2022.

I had money on Souths last night. I also thought the 2017 Cowboys were no chance against us, and evidently so did our players.

It's not about who you're missing, it's who gets on the field. Souths have a much better spine than ours, even without Latrell Mitchell. Our forwards are slightly better (though they have two current Origin forwards while we only have one forward who played a single game two years ago) but our outside backs last night were definitely worse than theirs. With Mitchell and Roberts they have the best backline in the NRL, easy.

He isn't in charge of recruitment.

This'll get hijacked but for mine he's at parity now. I like him and I think with him we're a 3rd-6th level team BUT he needs to show he can do it in the finals. Yeah he didn't miss the penalty goal, but he talks about playing for 80 yet without Paulo/Nrown we look lost. Yeah there was some adversity, but f**k, that's rugba leeg.
He needs a good off-season himself to improve some of his own deficient areas.
As it stands now, we need to be a top 4 team next season and I'm not sure a prelim would even cut the mustard. Would be a very subjective call

Yeh. Our latest season form was average to poor. Souths was very good. And of course, in the end we were missing 60% of the first choice three-quarter line. So an Eels win would have been pretty surprising.
