I think he probably is a good coach, but then so is Brad Arthur's. But last year Fitzgibbon (and Payten) were the next big thing.

Even with a poor season questions need to be answered of BA MON and our CEO on why we were poor in recruiting last year.

It's salary cap pressure after relative success. No we didn't win the comp but we won plenty of games, which increases demand for your players. That pushes prices up and forces them out.

Chasing an old run down replacement hooker instead of chasing Lussick sooner. (Maybe they did but him coming now kid of shows they didn't).

He's a better player than Lussick.

Not having direct replacements for ICE Marata or Kaufusi was crazy Lucky Hopgood came across as 1 good buy!

If you can't afford to keep your own players why would you expect to be able to sign "direct replacements" (I assume you mean external signings who are just as good)?

I wouldn't judge BA on 2023. Been a shit year. I'd give him untill rnd 13 2024 and see where we are sitting.

We just lack depth after a disaster recruiting. Bar Hopgood none offer anything better then the back ups we had. Most where well below the likes of Bryce,Hands,Moretti,Grieg,Ogden,Russel.
These guys where all NSW CUP and by rnd 5 where above them all in pecking order. We f**ked up on recruits.

Davey, Lussick atleast offers quality depth.

But I also wouldn't be extending BA even if we finish top 4. I'd be telling him no negotiations untill final series is done if we make it. If he decides he wants to sign elsewhere for 2026 so be it.

Imo we are making panic buys to try and save a disappointing season. Best to just write it off as a bad joke and not dig a deeper hole with silly moves like Hodgson,Davey,Murchie and Joe O.
It's a solid squad and we had some cap space. Unsure why we blasted it in space junk rather then front loading and buying a few better players for 2024

We had heaps of money in the cap. We've signed Davey, Ofahengaue and Lussick since the season started. That's the benefit of leaving cap space instead of paying overs during the off season. When bargains come available you can snap them up. Smart moves by O'Neill.
