Fair point although they mentioned the Broncos.

So who else have knocled them back - and why are they nog being lambasted.
It's possible budget constraints meant they didn't ask every team. Or maybe they all couldn't do it for whatever reason. Looks like you and I don't know the answer to that one Loudstrat.

In any case, Saints knocked them back so someone decided to have a whinge and make a story out of it.

It worked, and now people that normally wouldn't give a toss are talking about this little TV show.

Goddo said:
Sure, St George copped some stick last year, and some of it was justified.
Too right. That'd be the assault, drugs, nightclub incidents, terrorism... oh that's right, St George had absolutely no off field dramas in 2009... How scandalous.

Still, little things like no news should never get in the way of creating 'news'.

One can only wonder the moral outrage should a real off field incident occur in 2010. Perhaps that's what we need. The footy is only a sideshow after all.

To the best of my knowledge, they have never featured the Raiders in the 2 or 3 years that it has run. Hence, I've never watched it.

If I was a shirt sponsor and I'd been denied 30mins TV air time for my company I'd care!

I'm sure this isnt factored into the agreement with the shirt sponsorship during negotiations...

I agree totally with Doust on this one. Tapp is a private enterprise making money off the back of the NRL. If he wants access to the clubs to make a dollar, he should be flexible with his terms. In the end he is trading off the NRL and Dragons name, the ball is in their court.Sounds like the Dragons have a fair excuse to knock him back based on past experiences. From what I have seen, it isnt the greatest production going around.

Nothing story, get your ass down to Canberra Tapp, theres a club willing to give you content there.

They miss out on a poorly produced 30 minute TV show but get 2 hours exposure during the ONLY televised trial match.

What would you prefer to watch? What would the sponsors prefer?

Another nothing story trying to drum up business by goading Dragons fans.

The fact that some people can not reason this out for themselves is a shame. More time should be spent on trying to think for yourself rather than allowing a newspaper to push your buttons and override common sense.

As a sponsor, I'd want all avenues of exposure for my brand.

I look forward to seeing all of the clubs on this show, it's a shame the Dragons choose not to take part but unless the NRL say they have to, it's their democratic right to say no.

Canberra are now willing to take their spot, according to the following excerpt from Daily Telegraph online.

Meanwhile, Raiders chief executive Don Furner said he would be more than happy for Fox Sports and Rugby League Summertime's host and producer David Tapp to make his way to the nation's capital after the Dragons snubbed an episode dedicated to the red and whites.

The Dragons were the only Sydney club to snub the program, as reported in yesterday's The Daily Telegraph, with fans denied an inside view of the joint-venture club's pre-season.

"The Raiders are always more than happy to try and get publicity for the club and would love to have the chance to feature on the show," Furner said.

"If there's a spot still available for the show before the pre-season starts then we'll take it."

Tapp apparently thought it was a great travesty for Saints fans to miss out, but hasn't been sufficiently worried about Canberra fans to even bother to invite the Raiders to participate.

Credible!

And I'm sure St George Bank aren't worried in the least that they won't be featured on a half-hour, poorly produced magazine show with negligible viewing figures.

The Dragons have little difficulty in attracting and retaining sponsors which would suggest they are not unhappy with the current arrangements.

Apart from the fact that the Dragons produce their own shows and publish them free via Dragons TV (as opposed to subscription only for NRL Summertime) there are plenty of avenues for fans to keep abreast of what is going on.

Besides, only 12 teams are asked to participate in the Summertime - no outrage from any media outlets about the selective nature of the invitations. What about the fans of the teams that miss out? What about their sponsors? Not so much a two line byword. Why? Because it is not newsworthy. It only becomes a story when the Dragons are involved and the Telegraph knows it will stir up emotions of the majority that choose not to think for themselves and prefer to have their opinions delivered in a daily dose.

Ok. Just wish i could convince the missus to let me get Fox.

I just wanna watch some footy. Already started training and had a couple of trials but nothing beats when the new season starts.

Convince missus?? Don't people just tell their missus that they are putting f**king fox on. When did people have to start asking their slaves for permission to do things??

Obviously there is a history between Tapp and Doust. Reference was made to how this was done a couple of years ago. Obviously more to the story.

As a Red V member I get plenty of updates on the Dragons. Not appearing on this show is of little consequence to me.

ps The Dragons released a two-disc DVD at the end of last year with more behind the scenes access, more interviews and more training footage than any of these Summertime episodes and was far more professionally produced than Tapp's amateur hour production. They sold a heap and the club made a very tidy profit from it

Another example of Doust being the worst club exec in the modern game. The sooner clubs get rid of this amateurism within their setups the better.

How the hell can an idiot like Doust blackout any free media that does nothing but a positive promotion of his club, justify it without sounding either petty or just plain stupid to the point of incompetency?

Oh I know, he can't. What a moron. To the contrary, what a top notch CEO would maybe angle for is maybe sell them (the media outlet) on expanding the coverage to a more in depth look at the club and extend the show to 1 hour if possible, ffs.

Free coverage and publicity for your club in an off season where fans are salivating for any up to date news or coverage of their team and players. What a great way to sell what ever programs or club offers e.g.( membership drives, fan days) they may have. Not to mention the value that the sponsors will gain in a period of the year that the sponsors don't get much value for their contribution at all.

What a fool, and a big snub to all the St George supporters that would have loved to have seen their team on the box chirping about their bonifides like all the other teams that did get that opportunity and didn't squander it so mind numbingly stupidly.

Yet another nothing story from the Tele trying to dig at the Saints.

Love how they have the big stink at the top of every article and as you get to the bottom (which most people with short attention spans never read) the facts come out, which makes it seem quite reasonable. Problem is, for most the damage is done in the headline and first 2-3 paragraphs.

Good on Saints for sticking up for themselves.

Oh yeah, chance for their fans to see there players in the summer, and an hour or two out of the Dragons lives.......

Fair dinkum it couldnt hurt and only gives positive promotion.

Bunch of wankers for mine.

I agree on the not newsworthy part but you and I don't decide what is news.

In regards to sponsors, Souths have just as much success as the Dragons in attracting and retaining sponsors and I've no doubt the sponsors would prefer to see them on this show, than not.

We also have Souths TV.

Maximum exposure is what sponsors want.

To suggest otherwise is delusionary.

I don't always agree with Doust but in this case I do - it really is a non event. When last involved with the program the Dragons wanted access to footage so it could be placed FOR FREE on the Dragons TV site. Tapp declined as he was only interested in his hip pocket. Fair enough on his part, and fair enough for the Dragons not wanting to take part again.

Why the outrage on our behalf Ram? You could not give a flying f#ck for Dragons supporters any other time, why care now? Is it because the Telegraph tells you to?

Tell you what. I'll get up early tomorrow and read that rag of a publication - that way I'll know what you are thinking before you do.
