Dragons poised to make a play for Bellamy

Complete and utter rubbish mate. Folks, potter, Anderson..... Plenty of better options were available. You obviously turn a blind eye to the politics and boys club culture that's plagued the club for years. Hornby, young and co wanted price so they had the power in their remaining years.
Thought you would understand that. Price was a very very por option, and it's proving a disaster right in front of us. So assume we miss the 8 this year... We would certainly be massive odds to make it the following year and maybe again in 2015. We farked any attemp at continued success by failing to find a coach who could attract players and failing to secure the services of a half back that would follow Hornby. Price put all his eggs in one basket (Stanley)... Sure a talented player but has in all honesty played sweet FA NRL to truly warrant the club throwing all it's faith in him. That's back fired terribly. The kid constantly breaks down and now will never be the same player. That was a dumb decision made by an inexperienced coach who has a soft spot for Stanley. Soward will leave and then where does that leave us?

Looking forward to your response and argument PRO price.
Maybe Potter, but Anderson's last couple of jobs haven't ended well and you could say Folkes hasn't added a lot since he's been here!

I'm not trying to be a smart arse mate, but although Folkes job title is "assistant coach", he is actually our defence coach.

Strong looking rumour from JA today that Bellamys latest offer from the Storm is $10m as opposed to our estimated $6m. Wonder if Gordon will up the ante & try to match or beat this offer......time will tell I guess.

T.

Hard to believe however, if it's true then surely Bellamy is staying put. Only thing is why wouldn't Bellamy just make an announcement; surely he is not after more than 10m.

Rupert has got to be desperate to sell to offer 10 million to Bellamy as rumoured, he must be getting a good price for the Melbourne Storm with the sale pending on retaining Bellamy.

Who pays the 10 mil? The old owners or the new ones? Obviously the new ones. Would they be happy paying 2 mil a year for a coach, plus the cost of buying the club?

Exactly crazy talk even the money we are apparently throwing at him makes me nervous. On price a lot of people say his too young blah blah but I think when we signed b Smith he was of a similar age to price and he took as too back too back gf's I could be wrong but that was 20 something years ago

Yes it would have to be the new ones, 2 million a year is just totally unprecedented considering Bennett and Hasler are on around 1 million.

He did 92/93 it's incredible this guy hasn't won a premiership yet, he can coach Brian Smith no doubt. Brian Smith coached us in 1991 aged 37, Steve Price aged 35 although brian Smith was already a coach at Illawarra Steelers aged 30 so he had substantially more experience.

True Minh but was that head coach or assistant ? Not disagreeing just don't now anyway price has been learning the ropes since he was 25 or so with 3 years under one of the all-time greats.

Pretty sure it's head coach but I could be wrong but yeh both guys are around the same age coaching the Dragons there's nothing in it in that department. I think Steve Price will do well this year.

I'm afraid that these days there is a lot at stake each and every year. Income from sponsorship, gate takings, merchandise, leagues club patronage etc is maximised when the team is doing well.

Bottom line is that we need to recruit the best players and coach to make our teaam competitive. There is no room for anything but good business decisions.

Agree but other then bellamy who I don't think is coming anyway what coaches are there around that will fit in with the dragon's ways a lot believe price should go but for whom if we don't get bellamy? Its easy to say but harder to do

Actually decsion have been made knowing full well that we could arrive in this position.

We did not chase McGuire when he was clearly the best coach available to follow Bennett.
We did not chase Potter who I believe he is ready for the NRL andwill do well this year with a weakend Tigers squad.
We did not approach Brown who is much more experienced these days.
We did not look to Smith who is a good two year option.
We have not approached Sheens who clearly has the experience and skills to get us through 2013 with an option for beyond.

It seems to me that if we miss Bellamy, for 2013 it will be Price and if he failes, then Folkes will get a go. For 2014, who knows whats on Doust's mind.

Price won't be sacked mid-year. The Dragons don't usually sack coaches mid-season. And possm, you really have no idea who the powers-that-be chased. Not unless you have inside info, and I am positive you don't.

I feel that News Ltd will win the race for Bellamy to remain at the Storm for a motza. The Dragons really need to look at the very next best high profile coaching options to help attract some talent in the top end of signings. The club was prepared to pay out $1.2m per year for a 5 year term. For this type of money you can possibly get 2 coaches on $600,000 each per season. Why not go hard for TIM SHEENS as Director of Coaching & Recruitment. Go hard to poach MAL MENINGA as head coach with his skills in man management and a very larger than life profile and respected in the game. Assistant coaches could be Dean Young & Ben Hornby working under the guidance of Sheens as director. I am sure the financial package could be very attractive in securing a double act high profile coaching structure to take the dragons forward.
