Dragons statement: Player breach

Now Mark Riddell is copping it because he's not adhering to the narrative that it was a party of Caligula-level debauchery.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...l/news-story/4ec6df488573f02109ac88a8031db6ba

This is what annoys me the most about the media. It used to be social media where people deliberately misconstrued statements in order to further their argument. Now it seems that people that do this for a living under the guise of "public interest" are just as likely to wilfully distort facts so as to push an agenda.

Nothing in Riddell's post excused what was done - quite the contrary. But he has offered one of the few or perhaps only first-hand and public accounts of what transpired. And for that he has trough-slurping fools like that one calling into question his integrity.
Don’t worry
We all the know the facts Get in the way of a good story
these Fox, C9 and especially DT guys are holding onto the jobs for dear life as their employee scrambles through the bottom of the barrel to employ who is next, who will hopefully spice up the life of us supposed dumb supporters with their on air games and entertainment
Why not make yourself relevant James

Well GS, I expect him to be upfront and publicly acknowledge there are issues with the club’s culture

Hi GS. I expect him to be upfront and acknowledge publicly what is patently obvious to everyone! There is a culture problem at the club! There is a culture problem with much of Australian sport - the Dragons are not alone, and it is not all the fault of the club! Much of what we see is caused by men not accepting their responsibility as highly paid, privileged, professional sportsmen whom are role models for thousand of kids (and for other men)!
To address this issue will take a generation at least - we are dealing with ingrained “blokey, superior”, attitudes!
Would we expect this behaviour from our fathers, brothers, husbands, and sons?
No - most decent Australians would not!
It is a double standard which has survived by people not calling it out and promoting better values through explaining expectations and modelling what is right and appropriate!
By not calling it out you actually give it a tacit approval!

They are dealing with the problem internally as all clubs do... We are currently copping a hammering in the press...Would you like Mr Webb to provide them with more fodder for the cannon ?...This will then more than likely have an effect on sponsors etc...

That's why you don't come and " Call it out ".... I could tell you @ least 1 dozen stories from good sources about a n.s.w club that has had many scandals, but they keep it in house....that's for good reason...

As you correctly stated, the behaviour you describe would be rampant in all sports and codes ......These guys are grown men...the clubs cannot pay to put minders with them 24/7....
The club has acted appropriately and swiftly...and with all due respect, most of the people who allegedly have caused the culture problem have been moved on or their cards have been marked....

That alone proves that the club doesn't approve of this type of behaviour.

Still writes for the SMH.
Roy did the big media expose on the jdb aborted player strike after the no-fault stand down.

My only encounter with him was when I wrote to him once when a mutual friend passed away -about 5 years ago and wrote back a very short email to thank me. Then he sent an email that was read out at the funeral was was very warmly received by the family. He was living in Victoria at the time.

I too said the same thing and couldn't help myself and switched on to NRL360.
What I couldn't believe was Cronk switching the facts saying the NRL were punishing the club and they shouldn't be allowed to bring in a short term recruit for 3 weeks.
The NRL are punishing the players and have cleared the club of any wrong doing.
Brent Read was the voice of reason saying they had a roster position available and should be allowed to fill it.
Kent orgasmed instantly at another opportunity to put the boot in....even Ben Elias joined in with Kent but he is a moron trying to secure his position on the panel.
Elias proudly talks about how he bit himself to get Fenech
A true toughnut and personality of the game.

No nonsense or bullshit.

I often thought he was the Rabbits version of Harry Bath.
I dig what you are saying, there is only one Harry, they broke the mould when he turned up, player and coach. 👍

So Andrew johns has told the story of Kenty and his mates running after him and a buddy ( outnumber) to fight them as teenagers.

I dare say “The dodgy immortal” would smash him into the next world in a fair fight.

I binned it completely a little while ago, and reaffirmed when Yvonne Sampson was named to take over from Ben Ikin. Can't stand her personally. When she accused Ben Hunt of faking an injury last year it was the nail in the coffin for me.

They missed trick not putting Lara Pitt in her chair. Actually knows Rugby league with insightful opinions and can host a show. The one who got the job is just Fox's version of Tracey Grimshaw, just more insincere.
I agree......"I want to be one of the boys" Sampson is irritating and her mannerism annoys the crap out of me....and your spot on if a woman was going to replace Ikin then Lara Pitt would have been ideal....at least she knows the game and gets through her work without that silly smirky laughter

On a broader level, that's a little harsh. What if someone has a difference of opinion, or sometimes people want all the facts before they call something out...? Or maybe they just don't care enough to take notice. Doesn't mean they approve of poor behaviour.

All these media personalities in their glass houses are certainly calling it out,., but they go strangely quiet on other topics.

So does 'calling it out' apply to all things? For example, I'll call out racism which imo is a cancer on society. But if someone else doesn't call out racism, I don't automatically think they are giving racism tacit approval.

There's probably a moral to the story, but at the moment we seem to be chock full of morals... overflowingly. But I guess there's always room for more.

Whenever I feel sad, I now think of Jack under a bed and I smile again.

Thanks Jack, I have a daughter your age, she is no coward.
It's Governor Bligh all over again. That sorry bugger never lived it down. And he didn't even hide under the bed, his enemies made it up.

Alas, JDB will always be remembered in the same way, regardless of whether or not he did it. I feel a banner coming on. Has "Jack de Bedding" been taken?
