Lives in Melbourne and writes weekly article for the age /smh

he writes more bigger picture type articles and backs it with facts .

best journo around
Thanks for your reply AnonymousLurker. Yes, he is a writer based on facts is Roy Masters.

I'm surprised that that ex Union player and wannabe book writer, Peter FitzSimons, hasn't put his 2 bobs worth on this matter.

I just worry that that the recent drama can now be used as an underlying excuse for failure at some point by the club, players etc if things go badly.

It’s a get out of jail free card for all concerned, from Webby to the 3rd assistant gear steward.

From trying to avoid the spoon to deep into the 8 with virtually the same set of players if not seriously depleted ( via McInness and Friz losing the plot ) has been a remarkable achievement.

And apart from Hook and some tweaking I think it’s been a product of player interaction and bonding. Maybe the closest group of players in the comp, the dirty dozen. That’s under siege now.

I have no doubt that the boys feel his treatment was really unfair. Whether you or I think so , doesn’t matter - it’s about them.

Guys like Sims have still alluded to this bond after the event square in the face of the public hysteria. He wasn’t involved, but he remained in the trenches.

They are hurting bad. It’s called mateship.

sua goes well,

Ive decided that I was going to give NRL360 the flick, but couldnt resist a quick look in tonite to see what and who they were tearing into...didnt take long before another know it all imo (Cooper Cronk) that was siting in Hadleys chair was voicing his disapproval of us signing Jaydn Su'A and that it was a bit rich (or words to that effect) us using other players to help out seeing our blokes had been suspended...sort of implying it was unethical......really !!!!!... I think thats a bit rich coming from a former player from The Melbourne Storm mob...

I binned it completely a little while ago, and reaffirmed when Yvonne Sampson was named to take over from Ben Ikin. Can't stand her personally. When she accused Ben Hunt of faking an injury last year it was the nail in the coffin for me.

They missed trick not putting Lara Pitt in her chair. Actually knows Rugby league with insightful opinions and can host a show. The one who got the job is just Fox's version of Tracey Grimshaw, just more insincere.

Agreed. Interesting to see how it plays out.

If this happened on McGregors watch the fans would get the bloodhounds n pitchforks out to hunt him down - "lost the respect of the playing group" and all that. And the accusations of excuses would flow.

In some areas it's completely the opposite for Griffin - some even want his contracted extended already. Heard a lot that "It's McGregors roster", so he's still somehow to blame... And we've had injuries and suspensions.... to me that's just more excuses coz other sides have been in the same boat as us, many far worse. Eg Roosters, Raiders, Broncos all had far worse injury lists that we had at any point this season.

To me it just comes down to results on the field. We didn't get what we wanted under Paul McGregor. Are we getting results we want under Griffin?

To me we aren't at the moment. Next year may be a different story. I hope it is. But for now our club is a frigging mess on and off the field.

Webb seems like the right guy for the job - love the comms improvement. Griffin has a lot of work to do - I hope he can do it. However getting rid of Paul Vaughan (and Matt Dufty) is a step in the right direction... I'm hopeful.

I too said the same thing and couldn't help myself and switched on to NRL360.
What I couldn't believe was Cronk switching the facts saying the NRL were punishing the club and they shouldn't be allowed to bring in a short term recruit for 3 weeks.
The NRL are punishing the players and have cleared the club of any wrong doing.
Brent Read was the voice of reason saying they had a roster position available and should be allowed to fill it.
Kent orgasmed instantly at another opportunity to put the boot in....even Ben Elias joined in with Kent but he is a moron trying to secure his position on the panel.
Elias proudly talks about how he bit himself to get Fenech sent off! Jackass!!
I see Kent was still banging on about Detectives (yes Detectives) are still looking into the get together at Vaughans joint to see who exactely were there and that the players will be required to sign affidavits bla bla bla.....next we will see neighbours having to hand over cctv footage, drones flying overhead ,swat teams at each end of the street and players phones being bugged .....ffs sake no one has been murdered ....players have been fined by police for breaking state Covid rules, suspended and fined by the NRL ....and our club has sacked Vaughan and fined ( I believe the money to go to charities) and ordered the guilty players to do community work etc.....not one of us is proud of what transpired last weekend but time to move on now

Yeah, they will keep banging on about it to sell their advertising, until people tune out.

There’s a whole bunch of people with vested personal and commercial interests to keep the plot going.

And Its well known that Kenty was a bit of a lair in the day himself. The usual hypocrisy.

Sorry Willow not sure if Darcy did.......just through his name in to let you see how old I am lol
I too remember old Darcy. He was the controversial ref of his day, long before Hollywood Hartley and Harrigan.

But he was wrongly accused of fixing the 1963 grand final. Wests claimed that Johnny King was tackled in the mud and Darcy Lawler called "held". But it's myth. You only have to look at the footage. King did an amazing job in the slippery conditions, getting up to score in the corner. And Darcy signalled "play-on". Of course the facts don't stop those sad people who are still whinging about it to this day.

Now Mark Riddell is copping it because he's not adhering to the narrative that it was a party of Caligula-level debauchery.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...l/news-story/4ec6df488573f02109ac88a8031db6ba

This is what annoys me the most about the media. It used to be social media where people deliberately misconstrued statements in order to further their argument. Now it seems that people that do this for a living under the guise of "public interest" are just as likely to wilfully distort facts so as to push an agenda.

Nothing in Riddell's post excused what was done - quite the contrary. But he has offered one of the few or perhaps only first-hand and public accounts of what transpired. And for that he has trough-slurping fools like that one calling into question his integrity.

This whole dilemma has shown who in the media, particularly ex players simply want to see our club penalised and disadvantaged. They can't cop that it was a player issue and that the club has done everything right. Cronk is a hypocrite and Mark Carrol's carry on this week was deadset embarrassing bogan trash. Wait until Anasta sticks his big head in front of the camera.

Target the players by all means but don't make the club the bad guys. They clearly wanted to see us run out of the competition.

I'm satisfied with the NRL's sanctions. I believe they had a lot of self-interest in maintaining the integrity of NRL matches which are currently a debacle with blowouts. Otherwise they would have come down heavier. I am more than satisfied in the actions of our club before and since the stupid get together.

Indeed.

The fact that their culture has been questioned, yet when the team were given the weekend off they still wanted to spend time together to watch their next opponent play is a solid indication of how tight and committed they are.

Potentially augers well imo...

I think at least @Gareth67, myself and others were concerned about the speed in which the club would recover from the dark days of Mary.

Even for the pro- Mary folk, the combination of his good self and most of his sides during most of his tenure was a sure recipe for disaster and I will spare the panel numerous examples of Mary-speak that came across as delusional taken at its absolute highest.

From the outside even where I’ll concede the consistency isn’t where it needs to be, you appear to be on an upward diagonal in the main.

The de-maryfication programme is going pretty well.

As you suggest, the balance of the season will be a fair test of this growth and progress.

I have some time for Hook, I like his “spade is a spade” approach to challenges.

When he signed on, he didn’t promise anything, no carrying on about being a rookie again or how the changes to the side will bring about instant success. No bullshit.

He just said he’d “ do his best”
