Dragons statement: Player breach

They have breached the bio security rules and will be punished with $$ fines and possible games out.

One thing though, and this DOESNT excuse them, but if they went over to Vaughn's house and it was only the players who attended, then they are in a way still in a type of bubble. They drove in their own cars I assume (bubble) to the house and then stayed inside the house (bubble).

I know it goes against the nsw government and nrl rules, but it is literally not as bad compared to if they went out for a coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee or went to a restaurant (like Dugan did).

That's no reason to reduce their punishment, but I think it could be an important angle to keep in mind.

Complete stupidity all round these guys though.
remember coach Bennett attended a restaurant, breaching the rules last year
and the house where the party held, could have been contaminated with corona. thats why the stay at home covid rules
and Bondi coogee walk is allowed its exercise
you said it was only the players who attended,
reports are different to that

This is stupid but so are the rules. Why cant they be at his house as long as it was just the players there. They train together they play together.
I guess its better being at his house then at some pub.
essential travel only covid rules, going to the closed pub is non essential
stay at home rules apply
reports of other people being at the party, not just players

This quote is from the police report.
If there was up to 25 people there and a dozen Dragons, why did police only move on 4 men.
Also ages don't all match up to those named.

On Sunday afternoon, a NSW Police spokesperson said:

"About 9.40pm yesterday (Saturday July 3), officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended a Shellharbour home, following reports of visitors at the home.

"Police spoke to the residents, a 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman.

"Four men, aged 21, 24, 25 and 29, were also spoken to and it was determined they were not residents. They were all given directions to leave and return to their homes

Ages 21, 24, 25 & 29.......mmmm

Accordibg to our team list, current players whose ages match the report are
21 - Lomax, Ramsey
24 - Lawrie, Ellis (turns 25 next month)
25 - Dufty, Kerr, Poasa, Fui
29 - Can't find anyone who's 29 in our squad

So disappointing as a fan. Even if you don’t believe in COVID or don’t believe we should be in lockdownhe only reason the NRL is alive is principally because of the measures that are in place. Without these measures there is no football and without football it is not just the players, it is the admin staff, it’s the grounds men and women that don’t have jobs. It is astoundingly self centred of these players.

I heard Dean Young say a couple of days ago that he didn’t believe the players were being hard done by; he said we take private jets to games and are being paid well, how is that hard done by. I agree with that sentiment.

Some of the players reportedly involved would never be picked up by other clubs, so if they’re sacked, they are finished. I mean who would sign Ellis or Alvaro?

Yes, Harvey Norman in Warrawong was cranking today full of non bubbled people, some without masks. Must be considered an essential service like McDonald's and Kfc, no one kicking up a fuss about that

The Dragons announced on Sunday morning that an investigation into a gathering at the home of a high-profile St George Illawarra player was being undertaken by both police and the NRL Integrity Unit.

It is understood Hunt, Sims and McCullough were not involved in the alleged breach, leaving the trio free to be selected by NSW and Queensland for next Wednesday's Origin III.

A NSW police statement provided to NRL.com confirmed that officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended a Shellharbour home around 9.40pm on Saturday night following "reports of visitors at the home".

"Police spoke to the residents, a 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman," the statement read.

"Four men, aged 21, 24, 25 and 29, were also spoken to and it was determined they were not residents. They were all given directions to leave and return to their homes."

The Dragons have confirmed up to a dozen players are the subject of NRL inquiries, having allegedly breached stay at home orders by attending the gathering.

It's understood St George Illawarra officials were informed of the matter by players involved on Saturday night.

The club's first-grade squad was given the weekend off after Friday's golden-point win over the Warriors and now have a two-week break between games.

They are next in action on July 16 against Manly after a bye next weekend.

Under the current Greater Sydney lockdown, which extends to Wollongong and Shellharbour, a reasonable excuse is needed to visit another person's house.

The NRL's Level 4 Apollo protocols also dictate that players must remain at home unless training, playing or completing an essential household task and visitors are not permitted into the homes of players or officials.

Previous breaches of Apollo protocols have resulted in players being fined and suspended, depending on the severity of the indiscretion.

Five Bulldogs players and Sharks star Josh Dugan were ordered into isolation for ignoring NRL directives or biosecurity protocols, with Canterbury fined $50,000 and Dugan hit with a $25,000 breach notice last week.

dragonz club could be fined $50,000 like the bulldogs

It will be interesting to see what Peter V'Landys says on this matter.

The Dragons are finished for this year, although they didn't need to get to this situation for me to come to this conclusion.

Our club goes through so much turmoil it is just not funny. And we are known to be the Saints which is incongruous to how our players have been behaving off the field.

Vaughn and co. are brainless, selfish, dumb, idiotic, disrespectful, hurtful, disruptive, vain, useless men who have only thought of themselves. They thought that throwing a party to celebrate a win and have the next 2 weeks off was deserved. Well they deserve shit as far as I am concerned.

Thats were the rules are BS. How can the gov expect us to follow them when theres double standards every where. Biggest example being essential work only. So how is playing NRL essential but Thai massage is not?

Can you imagine Craig Bellamy & the Melbourne Storm copping this sort of shit disregard to restrictions & protocols.
If Vaughan is part of any Senior Leadership group, he needs to be stripped of that responsibility & dropped by Hook to show the club comes 1st.
I’m sure the NRL sanctions will follow.

He’ll be sacked, absolutely no doubt about it.

I just feel sorry for every one involved at the club from sponsors, supporters, fans, coach even the BOD.
The players involved should be ashamed and why oh why do something sneakily, make it easy for neighbours to complain.
It is almost like Vaughan wants out
Vaughan has to be let go.bad look for hook he's is struggling to control this squad
Would not go that far and blame this on the coach losing control

It's time to real in the new era !

Drop/Sack whoever is responsible and/or involved with this this and promote those far more deserving of a shot. Forget about playing finals.

Surely after the game on Friday night, where the team were no doubt afforded ample time to sing the team song, sit together and have a couple of beers in celebration of the nail biting victory... the coach and senior football team staff would have re-enforced the rules surrounding the current L4 COVID protocols, particularly as we were headed into the bye? Please explain Ryan Webb & Anthony Griffin - how was this allowed to happen?

V'Landys, The NRL Commission, The Integrity Unit must be absolutely tearing strips off the wall right about now. The respective state governments are well within their rights to shut the whole thing down on a whim (and quite frankly if I was NSW Premier right now I'd be considering just that).

What public crucifixion ?

On line fans replying to a story that has been verified by the Club ?

Spare me.

The only facts in dispute relate to who the players are. The Club has acknowledged this breach took place.

Five nights ago my 85 year old father was rushed to hospital by ambulance after suffering a seizure. I couldn't ride with the paramedics and my mother couldn't get into the hospital, due to Covid restrictions.

That's nothing compared to what others have had to endure during this pandemic.

They cant hold off the piss get together for one night after a win ?
Well said mate....hope Dad is doing ok and your Mother and family are coping....I will be in touch..cheers
