Prior is having one of his best seasons. Green or Runciman should be back up. Even Vidot.

There is a player in Cutter I think it's Vai VBai who is also more than capable of filling in.

Vaivai is literally the perfect replacement - has first grade experience, he's quick, strong, dangerous with the ball, probably sort of lacking in defense but no more than Prior/Stanley/Green IMO, exactly what you would want from a replacement centre. I dont understand what he's done to get in so bad with Price.

I can't work it out. Harry was brought in as a back up, we are in a situation where the back up should be used but we don't. If Stanley is 5/8 for the rest of the season does it mean that he is also considered as 1st preference backup next year?

I understand that you play for a team and fill in where you are needed but I feel sorry for Matt Prior and Stanley. How does the current situation help Stanley improve his game in his preferred position? Prior even more so. He must be a bit anxious about the fact he can't try and cement a starting or bench spot in the forwards knowing there will be more pressure next year.

I know this maybe seen as looking too far ahead but we are calling this a rebuilding year, aren't we? Maybe Williams will be choppered in sat night, parachute down with the 6 jersey on his back and all will make sense.

LOL with our current luck it will be "Blackhawk down". and Williams chopped into piece's as the Chopper crash's into the western stand causing it to collapse . All in All one of our more entertaining Nights.

If Prior is guaranteed a backrow spot next season from another club then he may take it. That is the risk in putting players in positions that they don't prefer to be in.

If Saints lose him because of that then who do you blame?

You must know the standard answer is "We can't keep em all". Especially in a successful year..

I am not knocking Prior.I even think he would be p*ssed off playing in the centres,i am saying that we need a centre who is mobile and can give opportunities for our wingers.Price keeps talking about offence, you can't have a forward in the centres as the set plays will break down most times.
I reckon this season Prior is the first picked each week because he is having a fine season.

When a forward playing centre is one of our better performers halfway through the season you know things are bad!
I like Prior but how the heck is there not a proper centre ready to step up?

Ive been saying it a long time, but im not interested in falling over the line to win a game.. I want to play an exciting brand of football with players chosen with an eye for longterm rebuilding, and I continue to be disappointed by the selections each week.

Couldn't agree more. The falling over the line style can be defended if you're winning 80 per cent of your games, but not with where Dragons are at with CutPrice.

VaiVai could play for the Kangaroos, if the forum love is anything to go by.

King in for Rein. Siejka (or Williams) in for Chase. Just that would please me. Our issues are in the halves and Rein.

We could have both Gasniers (or VaiVai's, apparently) and it wouldn't make a difference. Our halves are the worst in the comp and the starting hooker aint far off worst. These are the most important pplayers

You beat me to saying exactly that. Fein was spent force as half years ago and Stanley?????? what is up with that!

We have arguably the worst centre pairing in the NRL.

I think with a decent coach and halves Stanley would be a good centre. He is big, relatively fast, runs hard, isn't lacking in ball skills (for a centre) and has decent footwork. If you look at line-breaks over the last 1.5 seasons I guess only Morris would be ahead of him. It's not as if the halves have been helping him with quality ball to put him into gaps or half gaps or much of anything except hospital passes or the ball 5 meters in front of a solid line of defenders.

Bottom line is, IMO next year with hopefully a new coach and Widdop and hopefully his brother in the halves, we will have at least one quality centre and it won't be Beale.

You won't get any arguments from me there.

However, our centre situation is dire bordering on diabolic. We need to score points, and both Prior and Green would be flat out scoring in a brothel with a fist full of fifties.

Will Matthews is likely to be the Dragons' beneficiary of Trent Merrin's Origin boxing exhibition.
Merrin will miss St George Illawarra's NRL match against Penrith tomorrow night after taking the early guilty plea on a striking charge from State of Origin II.

Merrin's tussle with Queensland winger Brent Tate sparked a second-half brawl after which both players were sent to the sin bin alongside Blues back-rower Greg Bird and Maroons centre Justin Hodges.

Merrin was hit with a grade-one striking charge by the match review committee for punching Tate in the 54th minute of Queensland's series-squaring 26-6 win in Brisbane.

Even with the early plea yesterday, Merrin earned enough penalty points to incur a one-game suspension.Hodges received a grade-one contrary conduct charge over the same incident but will escape suspension.

Matthews is likely to come on to the Dragons' interchange, with coach Steve Price to decide between Jack De Belin and Tyson Frizell at lock after today's training session.

Young prop Jack Stockwell has been named at prop, with Michael Weyman on the bench.
Merrin has been one of the struggling Dragons' best players this year and his absence is a big blow for the 14th-placed joint-venture club ahead of their round-16 journey to Penrith.

Will Mathews should be in the team more regularly in place of Rein. King should be the starting hooker with Mathews filling in if King needs a rest. Mathews can cover so many other positions in the forwards too. Rein tries hard and you can't doubt his effort but I think the opposition has worked him out and not fall for the dummy that was effective last season and that's a big reason why he doesn't create or score tries like he did last year.
