As I type this message via my mobile phone. I'm waiting patiently for the gates to open. I got a bit lost on the way up. It wasn't until I had another look at the street directory that I discovered that I went down the wrong bloody Heddon Street. I went down Heddon Street at Kurri by mistake. Thankfully I eventually found my way. There's a few cars here already.

Should of told you to get there early and start your car in between movies. Also, park toward front so you don't get stuck behind 4wds etc

I did get there early I was 3rd from the front. I got there just after 6pm, got a good posie and had dinner there.

There was quite a good crowd up there tonight.

Prices I found quite reasonable and the service was good. Mind you you'd probably get that at places that are independently owned.

Also in between movies they showed this
Intermission Time

Different to what I remember from my childhood. The Skyline and Metro just showed audio ads with slides. The one I remember vividly was the one for Cardiff Toyota.

Only had 3 gripes about the whole night and they had nothing to do with the drive in itself.
1. I got a bit lost on my way there
2. You had the odd idiot putting their headlights on during the movie.
3. My windscreen kept fogging up during the second movie

Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable night out. Would I go back there? My oath I would.

But I have to admit. I was completely astonished. Not a single Panel Van in sight. Though I did see one bloke blowing up an air mattress in the back of a 4WD but he had his family with him

Also just heard something on a radio show called Sporting pages in 2RPH saying something about the AJC are looking at having Drive In Movies at Randwick Racecourse.
SMH said:

Jockey club dreams of days at the drive-in

The Australian Jockey Club has entered the drive-in cinema business. Plans to host drive-ins in the centre of Randwick racecourse from May through to August are being thrashed out in Randwick council. ''It is an exciting new revenue stream for the club which is strategically important,'' AJC acting chief executive Darren Pearce told the Herald. ''It is a different experience going to the drive-in rather than the cinema. We'd like families to experience the fun of the drive-in and we are hoping the council will support this new initiative for the community.'' A giant inflatable screen will be used on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and sound will be broadcast to viewers' car radios. ''It is low impact on the community and low impact on the horses stabled at Randwick,'' Pearce said.

I know. Also not that Daylight Savings is coming to an end it'll mean triple features. Also roboshark thanks for your words of advise though I think I ended up taking them before you wrote 'em. They actually have a rule there that 4WD can't park in the first 4 rows and instead of using the car radio for the sound I took a portable radio cassette player and just used that. In fact they made an announcement during the credits of the first movie suggesting that patrons start their cars up and let them idle for 10 minutes during the Intermission.

Must be a different drive in to what I remember - Haven't been there for 2 years..

Service is never good there..They don't make enough for the anticipated crowd during intermissions and don't employ enough competent people who can serve efficiently..You can still be waiting for your hot dog and chips when the next movie starts..

How that's good service I'll never know..

I used to love the drive ins.
Used to go to the Gateshead one in Newcastle alot in the 70s and early 80s
As a kid in my pyjamas with my parents then later in my own car with mates or girls.

Interesting you found it like that. I personally didn't find it that bad when I went up there. I expect that at the likes of Hoyts and Greater Union but it's better at others. Just like what you get at Lake Cimena at Boolaroo. How many people were with you?

Also just wondering of those of us who love going to the Drive In, how many have experience Outdoor/Moonlight Cinema and if so what do you think of it? Personally I haven't but I feel as though it wouldn't be the same. Whilst you can mingle there like you can at the drive in you also have the option of being in the privacy of your own car.

Any teenagers thinking along those lines will either be very disappointed or arrested.

Well like I said when I was up there last time I didn't see a single panel van up there.

Will be going to see the Triple Feature that's on next Saturday Night

Wonder if they've ever thought of the idea of Movie Marathons like in the old TV ad I saw for one. (5 movies)
