For the record, it was a pretty similar phenomenon during the Hayne hearings - merkins here putting forward any excuse to diminish the responsibility of the male in the situation, and to put it on the female in the situation...

Until such time as two juries had found Hayne guilty as charged, then all that mysogyny seemed to quiet down a bit, until now.

Maybe not diminish the responsibility but rather endeavour to explore the fact that there are definitely nuances in a lot of these types of cases (ie. sexual consent based cases) and it isn't always just black and white.

There are no excuses for any behaviours that are criminal and I have never said there are.
My issue/concern isnt explained well without me channeling The Ram style post and even then it wouldn't be clear so I will let it slide.

Would support the first bit (fine), but think the second bit is overkill for 25 seconds of this level of (albeit criminal and entitled) behaviour that has been admitted/acknowledged, apologised for, dealt with publically by a criminal court, and with a publicised court-enforced punishment in place.

Taylan May got his NRL two-week suspension deferred to the start of the next season after being found guilty by a court of assault because... Penrith were playing in the finals, ffs!

It's unfair for you describe those who live on the conservative side of the hill as brainwashed. It just means that they tend to hold on to their traditional values and principles. Telling someone to protect themselves isn’t making excuses for their eventual perpetrator. Locking my car doesn’t excuse the merkin who might otherwise have opened the door and pinched my spare change. It’s not ‘we males’ making excuses for ourselves, as if we’re all the f**king same. It’s pointing out that ‘those males’ sometimes don’t give a f**k about right and wrong (or even the law) and the deep emotional scars of being sexually touched without consent won’t be healed by the legal system.
