Easts Tigers Enter Expansion Race

So the Easts Tigers and Redcliffe Dolphins are bigger and richer than the Broncos?

And the Broncos are bigger and richer than every Sydney club?

Well that settles it!

Bring in Easts Tigers and Redcliffe Dolphins. Piss half of Sydney's broke arse clubs back to the NSW Cup where they can field a team without relying on a grant from the ARLC.

If four Sydney clubs drop back to NSW Cup and Easts Tigers and Redcliffe Dolphins enter the competition, then adding Pirates and NZ 2 brings us to a 16 team competition. From there we can expand to an 18 team competition by adding Adelaide and NZ 3. There's even room to add PNG and Singapore to bring it up to 20. The four Sydney clubs that are relegated could put in a business plan to relocate to Adelaide and New Zealand to become NZ2 and NZ3. That would make the NRL the largest sporting competition in the southern hemisphere and help us create the revenue that's needed to fund junior development across Australia and New Zealand.
Having more pokie machines than some other den of Pokies is hardly ringing endorsement for why we should or shouldn’t have rugby league clubs there. I’d be more impressed if they had a strong portfolio of corporate supporters and 10k fans turning out to see them! Building a big leagues club and draining their community of money isnt what professional sport should be based on!

Aren't you embarrassed that 2 Queensland Cup clubs have more money and assets than 9 Sydney clubs that have been in the big league since 1988?
Didn't know there was a competition on who had the bigger assets, must be a qld thing, you know until you get a license, then it doesn't fkn matter,
See titans/cowboys for examples

What it says to me is Queensland could start up a rebel competition that sends the NRL broke. Take the Broncos, Cowboys, Titans, Storm and Warriors out of the NRL and you're not left with much to sell to broadcasters and advertisers. A 14 team competiton made up of 3 Brisbane teams, 3 NZ teams, 2 PNG times, West Coast Pirates, Adelaide Rams, Melbourne Storm, North Queensland Cowboys, Gold Coast Titans and a team from Singapore would be far more lucrative to sponsors and broadcasters. Throw in the Canberra Raiders and Newcastle Knights and all of a sudden you have a strong competition that has every base, bar Sydney, covered. Once the Sydney teams go bust playing one another we can bring four of them in to create a 20 team competition that shits all over AwFuL and RU.

Better if the game undergoes a total rebrand that aligns Northern and Southern hemis.
NRL to become the SRL (Southern Rugby League) and ESL to become the NRL (Northern Rugby League)
Treat the two comps as two conferences with a superbowl event at years end between the SRL and NRL winners.
That already happens, world club challenge, trust me its not the superbowl event your looking for, half the time, the team that get sent to play the ESL winner is pre season quality, and no one bothers to watch it

Maybe it is time for an A-League style reset. Start a new comp and open the bidding to anyone... then pick the best 16 (or however many clubs you want). Most of the current NRL clubs will get it, probably not all though.

It's just about getting to that point, yeah?

We've had soft resets in the past (creation of the NRL in late 1997, the dreaded criteria, the formation of the commission).. yet none of them have delivered on the game's true potential - and theyve all been compromised by the same thinking that drove expansionists into the arms of Murdoch.

Maybe it's time to get radical?

you reap what you sow/ Its treat as a preseason friendly. I'm talking about a genuine winner takes all Premiership title.

I think we'd be surprised at the quality of bids we'd get coming in if all 16 slots were open. Could definitely shake things up a bit.

Thanks for lecture on MY history & culture. In same vein states Smith's as possible name (again!). You know Australia is one of most diverse countries on earth?! Years in marketing - sure you aren't John Singleton?!
It doesn't matter what your ethnicity is, if you are an Australian citizen then Australian culture and history is also your cultural heritage.

Look you've backed off all the points you were making and are now resorting to blatant strawmen and BS word games to pretend it didn't happen. Take the L and f**k off.

You’d think with all this money and assets these clubs would have had no problem fighting off the afl encroachment into there regions? Why aren’t they spending it growing rugby league?
That's a question that needs to be asked of a lot of big RL clubs, and RU and Soccer clubs for that matter.

You wouldn't believe how many leagues clubs there are out there that are rolling in dough, yet put the bare minimum into their community clubs and piss and moan about how they are underfunded by the NRL.
