You're mis-remembering a few details, mx. Marshall was initially offered 300K, baulked only to realise it was the best offer available in Australia. Marshall met with a few NRL clubs, couldn't work anything out and it appeared to be England or bust until he sought Bennett's council. Wayne offered him a deal and the opportunity to play his natural game without the weight of expectation.

Korbin's deal was initially subsidized by the Newcastle Knights for 2017. The Broncos then had to make up the difference in 2018.

Mead was another player who wasn't wanted, even the Western Force turned their nose up at him. The Broncos picked him up, and he basically became a glorified minder for James Roberts.

The NRL market-place is not an auction house. Players knock back the highest bidder all the time, and often don't even bother to test their value on the open market.

Edwards made a noticeable impact when he came into the starting side in 2017 and has that touch of class about him. He was invisible inside the opposition red-zone, but then that was a commonality most fullbacks suffered from under Hook's system (Moylan the only exception, but that was a holdover from the Cleary system). If Edwards can develop that aspect of his game, he will have a long future in first grade. If not I'm sure Penrith will just look at Caleb Aekins, Daine Laurie or Charlie Staines.

Corey Oates is supposedly giving up $200k per season to stay at Broncos. Other clubs have offered him $600k a season.

Amazing how often players will give up hundreds of thousands of dollars to sign with or stay at Broncos.

Oates you could believe might do it. But aftera single season recently where Broncos signed Benji Marshall played reserve grade for $85k after rejecting $300k+ from Dragons as it was an insulting offer, Korbin Sims was released early from a $400k contract to play at Broncos on $85k, James Roberts took $200k at Broncos over $400k at Dragons and David Mead gave up $200k+ at Titans to play reserve grade at Broncos on minumum wage... its a little hard to believe players are really sacrificing money rather then getting it in another way.

Oates could love the club as Mansour does us. But the other players had no reason to give up huge money.

We need to find out how they really do it. It cant be sacrificing money for the coach when he's as good as gone. Nor because they're successful. Many more successful teams in the comp.

Because other players are more adept in the position. Edwards spent some time on the wing in 20s, including the 2015 GF but primarily he spent the bulk of his time either at fullback, the halves or as a roaming utility. I've always liked him to Clinton Gutherson in that respect, where he really needs options around him to be useful.

I always thought the centres would be Edwards' fall-back plan if he couldn't make it as a one, but with Blake and Whare seemingly locked up for a long time, he'd have to do that at another club.

I believe it was less Ivan's attacking structure and more Moylan's natural ball playing talent.

I'd like to see Edwards popping up more looking for an offload in the red zone. Kikau having the option of him or Blake could be very rewarding.
