It's working for Souths though.
As it has been stated on here numerous times, we signed the wrong Storm assistant coach.

Yep. Despite a lot of poor decisions, this club has also had more than its fair share of bad luck over the last several years. Who could have known Hagan would be a dud; or Sandow; or Brett Finch; or Justin Poore; or Daniel Mortimer; or that Kearney would be such a sensational flop; or that the Canberra job would come up out of the blue and entice Ricky Stuart away? Surely our luck is due to change soon.

Everyone I ever spoke to reckoned as soon as Canberra were able to make Stuart a viable offer, he was gone. Surely anyone considering hiring him would know his heart is in Canberra? And surely a professional organisation would rather fold than put a clause in a coach's contract that he can leave at any time - especially when said coach clearly was never 100% committed anyway?

But my point was that hiring Stuart was a bad move from the start.

I think, in theory, it was a good move. We'd just come out of the worst two years we'd had in ages; Stuart was a bloke who had won a premiership, had experience, and looked like he was on the up and up after rallying the NSW boys to come within a hair's whisker of ending the maroon's winning streak. It also looked like he'd be able to entice a couple of big-name NSW stars to the club. I think it was a decent move for our club to make.

Hindsight is a great thing. Every merkin can see it now. Some see and call it early and then face persecution. The guy is the biggest myth in rugby league and leaves a trail of destruction where ever he goes. Don't need to be Einstein to see it either. There was more than enough evidence yet most had their heads up their arse. I am so glad the myth has left the building and wish nothing but the worst for his coaching career.

Well, we all thought the Kiwi coach would entice Kiwi Test stars over to the Eels...

I think there are a few core areas a coach needs to be able to excel in, and (in no particular order) they are: youth development, mentoring players, and recruitment.

Now, Stuart has shown he has a decent ability to recruit players. For the Eels alone (notwithstanding get out clauses and whatnot), he signed Nathan Peats, Lee Mossop, Corey Norman and Justin Hunt. Hunt is a decent back-up player and Nathan Peats' game time only suffers because he is stuck behind one of the game's premier rakes in Luke. Mossop is an English Test player. Norman was the Broncos' best attacking player and is young and seen as a tangible replacement for Darren Lockyer's jersey. So, all in all, some decent recruits.

And he showed he could attract good players at the Roosters and Sharks, too. So Stuart is okay at recruitment.

Mentoring players (including getting the best out of his players and making them by into his vision) and youth development are areas where Stuart fell flat on his merkiny face. He failed to do anything of note when Fittler retired, and I don't think he achieved much outside of one solid year at the Sharks. He seemed incapable of unearthing quality young talent and struggled when his team didn't boast a strong roster (again, outside of one freak year at Cronulla).

I thought from day one that Stuart's appointment was a strange move, but bought into his hype and supported him, being our coach and all. But the terms you used ("experienced", "Premiership winner" and "Origin") can also be attributed to Michael Hagan...And Hagan was the worst thing that happened to the Eels ever IMO. Clueless and a total gimp.

I think Stuart's appointment was a typical Parramatta Board hire - look for the biggest name available on the market, rather than going for the best fit. It's true that Stuart won a Premiership, but he made three consecutive Grand Finals with one of the most dominant sides I've seen and won only one Premiership. After winning the title, he wasn't able to get a strong side to lift again to win.

It's well worth noting that Stuart could have won the Origin series had he played the right player in the FB spot.

The guy came here as a dud who had ruined his previous club, and for many of us, we're not shocked that he was awful here. Thank goodness there was nothing to ruin, and so anything that otherwise might have been negative, could actually work out well (ie, sacking 12 duds).

There was no surprises with Hagan or DA either was there? Neither one came with the reputation of being a 'club builder'. Hagan is a bloke who should get a 1 year contract only - have a shot at a title, then move on. DA is in the same boat.

SK was a shocking hire (in hindsight), but was actually worth a shot. Of the 4 most recent coaches, his appointment to a 3 year tenure is the only one that makes any sense. And we're also very lucky that he's gone well before his 3 years... He was an awful coach, and unable to attract any talent to the club.

TBH I think Kearney's appointment made more sense than Stuart's - he was a young coach, was working at Melbourne for some time, had been coaching the Kiwis for a while (and winning) and was a pretty damn good player, too. On paper, his appointment was exciting. He turned out to be dreadful, but who could ever have known that?

Besides, our roster has been blah for ages now.

But Stuart's appointment never made sense to me from day one.

On top of that, what's to say SK wouldn't have done better with better facilities and strong board leadership?
Sticky jumped because it was all too hard, and his meager reputation was at stake.
Which masochist is going to want to take us on with all the bullshit?

Don't believe all the media hype around Stuart. His media mates protect him. Fact of the matter he quit his last post at sharks because of poor record. He quit eels because of poor record. He lost 2 origins series! Yes lost origin series and was as close to winning an origin series as was graham Murray or Craig Bellamy. He is a myth!

. TIM Sheens has soared into contention for a coaching role at the beleaguered Parramatta Eels, with the Kangaroos mentor on a shortlist of interviewees.

After North Queensland on Tuesday hired Roosters assistant Paul Green to lead the club for the next two seasons, the wooden spooners are now the only club with their entire 2014 coaching structure still to be finalised.

As well as looking for a man to replace Ricky Stuart, Parramatta are also speaking to candidates for a football director role that’s similar in scope to Phil Gould’s position at Penrith.

The Daily Telegraph has learned Sheens is firmly in line to fill the senior spot, and was scheduled to be interviewed this week until an illness he suffered from the PM XIII trip to Papua New Guinea struck.

Sacked by Wests Tigers last year, 63-year-old Sheens has repeatedly declared his wish to resume coaching another NRL club.

But well-placed sources at Parramatta believe his seniority might be better suited to the football director position - a role that’s also featured talk about former Eels coach Brian Smith returning to the club.

Another impediment to Sheens landing the head coaching role is his commitment to Australia’s World Cup campaign, which could extend until 26 November - almost a month after preseason training resumes.

Past and present players are campaigning for a younger man to handle the football team, with two other former Eels coaches - Brad Arthur and Jason Taylor - their preferred selections.

Green to be named Cowboys coach 3:03

Paul Green has won the race for the coveted Cowboys coaching post after Brad Arthur was ruled out as Neil Henry's successor.

Recently retired stars such as Nathan Cayless, Nathan Hindmarsh and Luke Burt have thrown their weight behind Taylor, who is also working under Dally M Coach of the Year Trent Robinson at the Roosters.

But current Eels players fronted board members a fortnight ago to petition for their old caretaker coach Arthur, who took over for the final six games of 2012 after Steve Kearney’s sacking.

It’s understood both Arthur and Taylor would be comfortable working under Smith should they get the job. The Eels still have to hire assistant staff as well as a new under-20s coach.

Ironically, Eels chairman Steve Sharp has told sources that his preference is NRL referees boss Daniel Anderson. However, Anderson has turned down the overtures and will remain at League Central.

Neither Sharp nor Sheens returned calls Tuesday night.

Now at Manly, Arthur was eyeballing Green for the Cowboys job along with former Wests Tigers assistant Steve Georgallis. Both Arthur and Georgallis were informed they’d narrowly missed out late Monday night.

Green was also convinced he’d missed out, telling Roosters officials over the weekend of his belief the Cowboys had poached seven-time premiership winner Wayne Bennett from Newcastle.

Coy about his future last week, Bennett only made a public commitment to see out the final two years of his Newcastle contract on Monday.

The Cowboys decided to appoint Green later that day, fuelling speculation they’d made a secret approach to Bennett that had been knocked back because the master coach still has unfinished business in Newcastle.

I highly doubt we are after Sheens as HC.
We would be not that stupid.
Seriously.
That appointment would be the end of every single board members, and the CEO's, career.
