He set up my NRL club's 'academy' after that shit was closed down in 2006. And he copped nothing but abuse for it.

So you could say I've got a soft spot for him. Same with Brian Smith.

Closed down????

Having been a ardent follower of the club for many years I find it hard to believe our Junior Development structure was closed down between 2006 and 2010, especially considering the sides that were fielded during those times in Junior Reps.

What was done in 2010 was a clean out of the old staff and a whole new staff bought in. They are starting to reap success in Junior Reps now.

That could be advantageous too Barry.

They won't pull the pin cause they might like the knew coach and don't want to risk not playing for him when it is announced.

As long as someone is still in charge of trying to add talent to the squad for next year and to trying to effect the release of still contracted unwanted players.

Otherwise both talent levels and morale will be a big problem yet again in 2014 before all the other competitive factors apply

Apparently there is based on the Liam Foran link over the weekend.

His wiki page has already been updated as an Eel in 2014.

Don't confuse junior reps with the recruitment/retention of contracted youngsters (aged 18-20) into the NYC and NRL squads. This is a massive part of being competitive under the salary cap, and between 2006 and 2011 it was allowed to degrade.

If you win an SG Ball comp you should expect some of those kids to find their way into the NRL squad in two to four years, but it doesn't happen automatically - rival clubs are also looking at champion SG Ball teams and throwing money at any kid not already contracted. You can't just expect the star 18 year olds to just turn up for NYC trials the next year. Because guys like Cleal and O'Sullivan have already offered them contracts.

Well Parra won't have Brad Arthur as coach as he is rumoured to have been appointed as coach of the cowboys next year.

Looks like you will have to settle for second best again.

Cowboys can have the coach that wants to live in Townsville and we'll have the coach that wants to live in Sydney. Everybody wins.

Again I don't know it was "Allowed" to degrade. I will say having Daisy in charge of the NYC did put the club back a few years and not even Matt Cameron could rescue it.

Anderson had the High Performance unit in 2009 and 2010, to find the good young kids in SG Ball and keep them going on, with NYC and some even training with the top squad.

Where all those kids went after 2010, only the gods know.

2nd best?

he was part of the SK failure, he may be great for the Cowboys with the team they have but should we gamble on a rookie? Probably not.
