I have a feeling Carney is a goose.

He isn't, just his mates are typical wankers.

Todd is a good person but easily misled unfortunately, I don't care if people don't believe me on this but, if there was one thing i'm actually good at it's reading people, and being able to tell if they are genunine or a legit twat, Carney is a good person, but he grew up under pressure and his friends aren't exactly the cream of the crop, i cant say to much, but i think alcohol helps him deal with a few problems he has...

The paycut talk is pointless. Why expect a CEO to cut his pay for anything other than vengeful or useless symbolic reasons?

You want to tie a CEO's pay to financial performance? Then be prepared to pay a fortune in the good years. You will also create a monster. The CEO becomes more infatuated with tricks to improve the balance sheet than anything else. Witness the debacle in the financial sector where this sort of thinking is rife.

I'd rather see the CEO & other staff bonuses linked to on-field performance. Then everyone is pulling in the same direction.
  .... very good point

back to the article at hand, the more I look at it the more I'm happy that with the stance they're taking...

I have heard that we bussed the players down to Griffith this year, instead of flying them and management of the club that went to that game, drove down themselves in a car pool situation.

The way around it is to set the CEO a range of performance measures - financial and non-financial. Have your standard financial ones, but also include on-field performance, growth in memberships, average crowd growth, increase in sponsorships etc etc
Get this right and you will ensure that the CEO operates in the best interests of the club.

So long as they make sure that "Spend huge amounts of your paid time acting on behalf of the club industry as a whole" isn't part of the KPIs this time....

If you need all that then you've got the wrong person in charge.

Pay them well & sack them if they don't deliver. Works for coaches & footballers.

I was under the impression that we only few economy anyway. The few times that I have been on the same flight as the boys its been that way. The only time a player goes Business Class is if they are carrying an injury (I remember Hindy going to NZ on Business once due to his dodgy back).

The shortened stay seems a bit of a slap in the face to our interstate/OS fans IMO. Whilst they dont attend weekly games, they do still spend money on merchandise, etc, of which, some of the profits go back into our club. Yet now, they will have an even lesser chance to meet the players they support.

I dont understand why we need to stay in fairly expensive hotels when we travel. That is where I see you can cut costs. For example, when we go to Brisbane they stay at the Holiday Inn. Now I am sure they get a reduced rate for a group booking, but rooms start at roughly $180 a night! Why not book out a Motel a few blocks away, which averages about $80 a night? Unsure if we have some sort of deal with the Holiday Inn group or not.

If the rushed preparation impacts on the team performance then I wont be very pleased...

Running NRL teams costs too much these days. The game as a whole (including clubs) doesn't make enough money to support the expenditure.

We have to cut back expenses like the travel and accommodation. Not to do so would be foolish. I'd rather our team goes no frills than have to reduce their own salary cap compared to the rest of the comp.

Holiday Inn is the Cheapest available of the Intercontinental Hotels group, who are not only a sponsor of the League, but a sponsor of us. Which would mean when we stay it is a contra deal, most probably also exclusive, if we are staying in a City that has a ICH hotel, we must say in it. I would also think if given the choice of a Holiday Inn and a Crowne Plaza we have to pick the Crowne Plaza because our sponsorship is with the Crowne Plaza Parramatta. So if we cut down the amount of nights we spend and the deal doesn't change we get a bigger cheque at the end of the year because we have used less contra.

Also I think Fitzy is talking about board members flying Business Class. So he, Ovo and any other Board member of the NRL club who wanted to take their 1 allowed away game trip per year would be in Business Class.
