I don't have mates, either. Just me and my vegetables.

You never know how the government will get you....

If bad news sells then Junior Paulo plans to put the printers out of business, promising Brad Arthur he will "only be in the papers for the right reasons" as he returns to his old stomping ground.

Lured back to the Eels on a lucrative four-year deal, Paulo said he matured as a man and a footballer during his stint with Canberra.

Last time he wore the colours of his junior club, Paulo generated headlines both serious then stupid in equal measure.

First he was breaching his NRL contract by playing third-grade rugby under a false name, then earning himself a police warning after posting photos with accused bikies on his Instagram account.

By the last days of May 2016 he was shipped down to the Raiders to get him away from what was described at the time as "some distractions and elements".

Paulo's teammates old and new remember just like the rest of us, as does the 127-kilogram human wrecking ball.

"As soon as I got back the jokes were being cracked, third-grade rugby and whatnot," Paulo grins before sobering up per the topic at hand.

"But I told BA, I'm only in the papers for the right reasons this year.

"I'm a more mature Junior Paulo than the Junior Paulo that left.

"I asked for my release from the Eels at a time that I needed to go. I wouldn't have made that decision without the club's blessing. I needed to find myself and find myself as a footballer as well.

"I was in the papers for the wrong reasons back then and that move to Canberra was the best one and most beneficial for myself and my family.

"I can't thank Canberra enough, they've helped me mature as a person on the field and off it".

Paulo has moved back to the Liverpool region in which he grew up, his partner Mele, two kids and another on the way all in close proximity to a doting extended family.

Parramatta's overtures last year surprised the big man, who was more than happy to take the Raiders up on the two-year deal they had tabled him.

No meet-and-greet was needed with Arthur; a frank phone call with his old coach was enough.

And beyond that initial promise to toe the line, no reminder for Paulo either as to what's at stake over the next stage of his career.

"The opportunity came up with Parramatta and the decision came off the back of security and me having a young family," Paulo tells NRL.com.

"Being a good father, that's the big thing. There's things in my past that I wouldn't want my kids to see.

"But as a player and more so as a father, I'm looking to be a better role model for them.

"I always knew I would end up back in Sydney, I didn't know when but I'm grateful to get the opportunity and can't thank the Eels enough for keeping that faith and wanting me back.

"Being able to repay them, that's through having a big year this year and that's what I want to do."

Did he really expect another contract after what he offered up last year???

Pretty classic vague-booking.

No indications it's even about footy? Could be an ex, a mate, anything.

Especally the bit about tossed salads.....I mean, what?

Mahoney back in training after starring in first assignment
Mon 11 Feb 2019, 08:53 AM
When Eels hooker Reed Mahoney was running around in Jersey Flegg through the opening weeks of last season, he probably wouldn't have believed you if you told him in 2019 he'd be an NRL squad member with nine games under his belt.

The feisty Nambour dummy-half now finds himself in a two-way battle for the Blue & Gold No.9 jersey in round one against Kaysa Pritchard, following Cam King's off-season move to the Featherstone Rovers and Mahoney's own promotion to the top squad from the development list.

Eels coach Brad Arthur is seriously looking at the 2018 Queensland under-20s Origin representative for their opening match of the Telstra Premiership against Penrith on March 17.

Mahoney will get a chance through the trials to stake a claim for a starting spot - they face Canberra at St Marys Leagues Stadium this Friday before matching up against the Panthers on March 2 to complete their pre-season.

"Last year I was only given a train and trial [contract], Mahoney told NRL.com.

"I went a bit better than Brad expected and got the opportunity to stay up in the full-time squad. It's just gone from there.

Eels halves moving on from Norman

"It probably came around a bit quicker than what I thought but in the back of my mind I was always thinking if I play well in 20s and [the Intrust Super Premiership] maybe I could get an opportunity at the back end of the year.

"It did bounce on me a bit quicker than what I expected but I wasn't going to knock it back."

Mahoney confirmed he was now a top 30 squad member after only getting clearance to play in 2018 through injuries, meaning if he earns an opportunity on merit there are no contractual reasons why Arthur can't pick him at any stage in 2019.

"Me and Kaysa are fighting it out. There's plenty of competition throughout the whole squad," he said.

"Me and Kaysa are keeping each other very accountable and working just as hard as each other, bouncing ideas off each other.

"Brad hasn't given any indicators [who is in front], I've just got to put my head down. I'm just trying to learn from all the older boys, they're helping me get better, Kaysa is helping me get better and I'm going from there."

Looks like its behind a pay wall.

Surprised you missed it Gronky. You catch everything. Read it somewhere a few days ago. I thought it was common knowledge. Norman saying he was pushed out by the Parra Hierarchy and not BA. Sorry mate cant remember where. Probably a FB story.

^^^

Thanks mate. Surely he can't be surprised that he is a victim of a dickhead policy.

Corey Norman settles into Dragons life after Parramatta Eels snubbing
FEBRUARY 08, 2019Corey Norman has revealed the decision to force him out of Parramatta came from the top and not Eels coach Brad Arthur.

“(The decision) must’ve come from the top. It came out that it came from the top. If they don’t see me in their future it is what it is. That’s what they’ve done.
