f**k me this guy is a dope, the Eels are not in the hunt, they dont have an underbelly, he just talks in rhetoric

if they can beat the Panthers in a few weeks, then they are a chance. So we go from not in the hunt to a chance because of one game ?

I would have thought your form over the season would determine if you are a chance, not 1 f**king game

But, but, but, if we ain't the Roosters, Storm or his Panthers, we are not a chance.

I think alot of parra fans would agree with him ... i think we seem clunky. My poor TV gets a barrage of abuse each week. All i would say is that its still 5 weeks until the finals and we are 4 points clear of 4th - so we are in the race, but it is still to be proven if we are good enough.

Some stuff that i dont agree with ... he says we fritter away leads against quality opposition. Well thats why they are quality opposition, they are not easy to put away .... and he says we dont like a street fight, but i actually think thats where we have improved, winning numerous tight games in ugly fashion .... and we arent getting smashed by anyone, which i think was the rollercoaster mess we were at times previously.

Anyway, i dont hate gould for saying it, cos i agree, i wouldnt be calling us favourites atm. Panthers and Storm are the most likely.

SINNER

Players taking dives to get penalties for their team from crusher tackles. The ploy was a blatantly obvious tactic the Parramatta Eels used against Melbourne Storm in their 14-0 win on Friday night that the bunker kept falling for.

Ok let rip..that drunken fool is filthy his sharks are shit now needs to shift attention elsewhere
Journos like him need to call it a day..he's a massive blight on the game..the game that gives him a salary..

I know it’s clickbait but we’ve “frittered away” big leads 3 times. Moanly when they were a top side, Canbra at almost full strength and when we decided to play with our eyes closed against the Dogs. We still won all 3.
And we’re no chance because we haven’t beaten a top team in the final month. Well no one has. And if we do beat Penriff does that mean they’re no chance?

Yet panthers also gave away good leads against us and the knights.....

“"If that doesn't happen and they get into a street fight it's not their cup of tea."”

FFS, yeah I agree we haven’t finished some games of or been patience enough....but we have won plenty of games which required us to fight until the end.....isn’t that a street fight??

Confirmation bias. He’ll wilfully ignore tight games we win in favour of the ones we lose, and the nature of a tight contest means we will lose some. I’ll agree we’re not scrappers but (SO FAR - touches his wood) we’ve seemed harder to fluster maybe. We’ve rarely looked uncomfortable in defence, even if there have been times where maybe we should be. I think this is hopefully a good sign that there is a lot of trust amongst the team at least in defence. Even down our right side, where that trust may not always be warranted, Blake knows if he rushes in, Fergo will move up who knows Moses or Gutho will move across.

He is talking about being a contender. The best of the best. A team that can win a premiership.

You can argue that his specific criticisms might be wrong or unjust but the over conclusion he has reached is spot on.

He's not saying we are a shit team, just not in the same league as the likes of the Roosters, the Storm and the Panthers.

I don't think we've shown anything to disprove that. If we want to win the premiership then we need to lift.

That said, its clear he has never liked the eels. Probably has never recovered from the thrashings he used to get as a player.

I was initially getting irritated by Gould but you know what it doesn't matter. Last couple of years, we've been beaten in the finals. It surely can't be worse than last year but it can be better.

For me, I am astounded as to why he would flap his gums like that at this time of the year.

In 2005, nobody thought the Tigers, or Cowboys, were contenders - everyone just assumed that the Eels and Dragons would romp to the Grand Final.

In 2009, nobody gave us a chance - we finished 8th, and were very patchy for a while. We ended up losing the Grand Final to a cheating team by 7 points (one of those points being practically handed to the Storm on a platter).

I know Gould's job is to generate talk; however, a man of his experience - and purported football intellect - should know better, than to write off a team at this stage of the season.

We have tonnes of improvement left - I doubt the Panthers can play much better.

I don't think he's written them off completely.

He said they need to test themselves against the Panthers as that will be a better barometer than a depleted Storm side.

Each of those previous sides that weren't contenders did something towards the end of the season to announce themselves as contenders. Parramatta need to do the same this year.

You can come to the correct conclusion using incorrect methodology. And if you are using incorrect methods, sooner or later you’ll come to an incorrect conclusion. I’m going to throw out that if what he wrote is what he truly believes and not just clickbait, then it highlights a big part why there was turmoil with him at Panfas. If Gould thinks he’s the fount of all rugby league knowledge, “he’s kidding himself.”

I can't remember which recent game but Blake came in in defence, fergo stayed out and Moses and Gutho came across to cover the centre.

Normally, Fergo comes in for the centre and leaves the winger unmarked and it's too far for gutho to come across to cover the winger who has not been slowed down by anyone.

It was much better against the storm but maybe because Matto was back

Some people have short memories

Anyone remember a couple of years ago when Billy Slater took a massive dive after being slightly nudged in order to get a penalty and the opposition player sin binned.
Apparently it was great gamesmanship and a smart play when he did that. When Eels players stay down after a legitimately illegal tackle it’s poor form I guess.
