Eels in the media

Danny can go on the shit list now too. Dumbest most pointless article I have read in ages.
Yep. How can we stop other clubs from throwing money at the local kids? We are in the middle of Sydney. These players can sign with nine other NRL clubs and still be less than 40km from their mum's house. Penrith only has the Eels within the same distance from their local juniors. If this commute wasn't important the Sea Eagles wouldn't have opened an academy in Blacktown.

Not good to learn Nathan and Mitchell are hanging around with some grubby characters, potentially bringing themselves, the club and the sport into disrepute...

The photo in the paper is from many years ago when the boys travelled together in the off season.
Mitch was not out on the sauce at 2am this morning….
True, I didn't mean to imply that Mitchell was... but it's still a worry 😉 the company he and Nathan keep (even in the off-season) .

I'm more concerned that Mitch was out at 2am night before the game.

Other than that, I wouldn't meet a convicted criminal then released friend in a club. Why can't they just drink at one of their places?

Meeting Hayne is alright I guess. Stopping the team from meeting him potentially impacts their rights as employees.

Para-dise lost

Parramatta are in their best position to win a competition for the past three decades, but there is a concern about what lies beneath the first-grade squad.
It’s not something publicly talked about but, according to the NRL’s official figures, the Eels are No.3 in junior participation and have been since 2021. The top five are: Penrith and District Junior Rugby League, Cronulla-Sutherland District Rugby Football League, Parramatta Junior Rugby League, Western Suburbs Junior Rugby League and Manly Junior District Rugby League.
There will be spin applied as to why, but they are the official figures. It’s amazing the junior powerhouse has now slipped to No.3. If you are a frustrated Eels fan, still traumatised by the club’s 35-year premiership drought, consider some of these players that got away, who have played key roles at other teams:
James Maloney (2013 and 2016 premiership winner with the Roosters and Sharks) – Wentworthville Magpies player who was not signed by Parramatta;
Luke Keary (2014, 2018 and 2019 premiership winner) – Hills District Bulls player not signed by the Eels;
Paul Gallen (2016 premiership winner with Cronulla) – Wentworthville and Eels junior not signed by Parramatta;
Daniel Tupou (2013, 2018 and 2019 premiership winner) – Guildford and Eels junior not signed by Parramatta;
Ryan Papenhuyzen (2020 premiership winner) – Hills Bulls player not signed by the Eels.
The following have played in the Eels’ junior or senior competitions: Keary, Josh Schuster and Brian To’o (Wentworthville Magpies), Addin Fonua-Blake (Hills Bulls), Stefano Utoikamanu (Cabramatta), Tupou, Papenhuyzen, Jason Saab (Merrylands), Taniela Paseka (Fairfield Pats), Alex Twal, Tui Kamikamica, Josh Aloiai and the list goes on.
He had a legitimate point about us sliding to 3rd but instead of exploring the potential reasons/ramifications, he turns it into the obligatory weekly “Hey remember these former Eels juniors who played for other clubs.”
Instead of accusing other people of not doing their job, how about you do your job Danny?

That we’ve dropped to 3rd in junior participation? I don’t know if it’s a particularly relevant point because Danny didn’t do his job, but it’s as he said the official figures. If I had to hazard a guess we’ve probably had declining participation for better part of last decade due to changing demographics, then Covid probably accelerated this more so than it did other leagues and then add in the biggest factor that BA selected his son in NRL side and it’s an obvious recipe for disaster

Merkins are plotting to steal Sterlo, Pricey, Cronin and Bert’s spot on the immortal list.
