I’ve heard things about Sarantinos and I’m torn on which way I lean with him. He’s very very savvy but yes he can operate too methodically. That means we’re less likely to make mistakes, but a lot less inclined to take risk. That’s not always the best option in any business but especially not in a business where there’s a big non-financial, barely operational goal of winning a premiership.
I think this type of thinking has pervaded our entire club too. It generally feels like we’re just being safe and waiting for everyone else to make a mistake. This is definitely how I feel about MON.
I feel we should hire Bennett regardless of BA. If BA wants to stick around next year and learn from Bennett, great. If he doesn’t, then Bennett can bring with him a Barrett, Morris or Burgess to understudy.
However from what I’ve heard, I reckon Sarantinos would be leaning towards Bennett being the only viable alternative (maybe Barrett a distant 3rd option). Unless Arthur quits, the chances of us hiring anyone else is very slim. But then I also think we’d enter a new phase in the playing group and potentially be stronger again, but then that’s looking another 3-5 years down track
