"The Board will do everything we can to ensure that our club will be managed with a commitment to openness and integrity and for the benefit of Members not individuals."

The only solution is to let the NRL take over in its entirety. That's the only way to move forward. Neutral board!!

Jake, explain to me how this would work?
The PLC and the PDRL are not under the jurisdiction of the NRL and the members of these 2 clubs may have something to say about handing the running of non-related Boards over to the NRL.

Unless of course you mean the NRL take over the Board of the PNRL which doesn't exist so the only option the NRL would have is to take over control of the NRL licence. Are you sure this is what you are after?

What's wrong with the NRL taking over the lic? I'm sure the NRL could put in an independent board. Tigers got the same deal didn't they?

No.
West Tigers is a joint venture with 50/50 ownership between the Balmain Leagues Club and the Western Suburbs Leagues Club. Up until Mar 2014, each party provided 3 Directors each and I believe they alternated the 7th Director.

The Balmain Leagues Club has been unable to provide their portion of the funding of the JV and as a result, the whole franchise was at risk (or at least the Balmain part-ownership).

The NRL (at the request of the Board) conducted a review and decided to change the structure of the Board so that each owner now has 2 Directors and their are 3 independent Directors (no doubt nominations of the NRL).

Parra's structure is that the NRL licence is held by a subsidiary organisation of the PLC which to-date (at least since DF left) has not withheld or threatened to withhold financial support.

And if the NRL took over the licence we could, hypothetically become the Perth Eels, the Brisbane Eels or even the Fiji Kava Drinkers and there is nothing we could do about it as members.

Well the NRL issues the licence. I gather there is nothing stopping them issuing it to someone else when the Parra Leagues Club Licence/Lease expires?

From my understanding, doesn't the NRL own the Intellectual Property of the Parramatta Eels also and just "leases" the use of the name back to the Parramatta Leagues Club?

It was the only reason they got in but in the end they proved to be just as incompetent.
Agree. A plan to remove the power of Fitzy was the only thing they had going for them, but it all turned into a massive dose of the Emporer's New Clothes.

Thank goodness we're (almost) rid of those cowboys!

Did DF ever threaten to withhold financial support? I don't think so...

His oft repeated quote about not being able to guarantee the existence of a stand alone footy team in 5 years shouldn't have been seen as a threat - it was said with his ClubsNSW hat on, merely to reflect/exagerate the perceived threat of the pokies tax (implying the LC wouldn't make enough money in the future to be able to provide the grant). I'd question the sanity of anyone who legitimately felt this was DF threatening to withhold finances?

I don't think DF was wearing his ClubsNSW hat when he was at the 2008 PLC AGM, but I might just be insane.

We need a truly independent board. One that's free of politics.

And the way we achieve that is by introducing the necessary changes to the constitution of both clubs (PLC and PDRL) to bring them back together where we then have a single board and not this current crap of split boards, special conditions, alternate election years and fudged memberships.

Unfortunately, there were too many deriders and distractors at the last PLC AGM to allow the start of the these types of changes to get passed.

Sorry I can't respect anything you say after you said that we should get rid of Hayne, you clearly have no idea.
Rather than pay over $1mil per season? Yes.
We need a balanced squad, not a squad based almost entirely around one (albeit great) player. The fact that we went into a slump around Origin time when he wasn't here (or was "resting") stands as proof that we don't have enough quality in the squad beyond the star player.
By comparison look at our successful 80s team... Cronin, Ella, Kenny, Sterling, Grothe, Price... all consistent rep players throughout the period.

Anyway, back on topic... Spags v Fitz etc. Glad we've left that era behind - once Spags finally moves on that is.
