Trent’s Achilles Eel
It was surprising that Trent Barrett was in the running for the Eels job, given he was part of the coaching team headed by Brad Arthur deemed not good enough to take Parramatta forward.

Barrett had very average results in his last two coaching jobs, at Manly and Canterbury, and did well to land a gig at Parramatta.

Barrett’s results were not the only issue. He was seen to be too close to his players at Manly and in 2017 was the coach when one of his assistants, Willie Peters, complained of being bullied at the club and departed by mutual consent. Barrett also complained publicly about club facilities while at the Sea Eagles.

Things didn’t improve at the Bulldogs, where the club floundered under his coaching.

Where it gets interesting is that Barrett tried to mount a charm offensive to help him get the Parramatta job. We will never know if Barrett asked Clint Gutherson and Mitchell Moses to support him publicly, but either way the backing of two of the club’s star players did not endear him to Eels powerbrokers, as they don’t want player power to factor in the process of finding a new coach. In other words, the players’ involvement backfired.

Good. The senior players had too much sway over Arthur too.

And it should be
This is one of the most important decisions the Board has to make, if not the most important.

Making the right decision is WAY MORE important than a quick decision.
It’s a race in two apparently, how hard is it??

The longer this goes on the harder it will be for the incoming coach.

This is the key point. Club politics are a major factor, and strong leadership is both the cause of, and solution to, internal political problems. It comes down to the mix of personalities, and not everyone at the club can just be sacked. There are salary cap implications to sacking contracted players, and obviously board members are there until their position is up for election. It’s non-playing staff who are the most expendable, whether it’s a contract payout or just four weeks notice.

If the decision is made today compared to a few weeks from now, why would it be harder?

Getting the decision right is more important than making an uninformed, quick decision. This should NEVER be a quick process. And yes a month would be a quick decision IF the process is done right

Andrew Webster SMH said today on the footy show that he wouldn’t be surprised if Parramatta are speaking to others behind the scenes and not letting the media know.
They must have a card up there sleeve as he can't believe how public the whole thing been.
Mentioned Matt Peet Wigan coach but says Ryles and Hannay seem to be favourites.
Who knows?

Five of the board members are there until they see fit to no longer be on the board. Those five appoint whoever they feel like appointing on any give day to those five positions should a position become vacant. It is only the two Leagues Club members that are there based on Leagues Club elections.

There is now ZERO accountability for this board...it's a do what you want free-for-all.

This. Anyone who thought this new board structure was going to fix our club are idiots. Anyone who voted for the 2 should hang there heads in shame.
