If you give control of anything to someone who thinks they are the smartest person in the room, sometimes that leads to unexpected outcomes .

The football manager was , I understood, given control of the salary cap and player negotiations, wonder if that contributed to issues as he is known for an " attitude " of not liking being controlled by others. As mentioned before this attitude has caused problems in the junior league with questions etc not always being answered or responded to.

I think there were rumours of an uneasy relationship with the coaching staff and football manager, wonder how much information etc was passed on when requested. Has to come out soon enough, hope my fears are unfounded

But that season has already ben dealt with and cleared by the NRL's first investigation.

From what I can gather from "reliable" parts of the media reports, this investigation is about new information that came to light about TPAs, the only one of which seems current is the Watmough situation and the failure to declare a company's related entity. Minor technical breach imo, especially if the NRL requirements of clubs is vaguely worded?

The media is just baying for blood, supported by warlords circling for power. The NRL should stand strong - a 4 point deduction is acceptable to all parties if we have done anything wrong.

(But we should have won last week's game, and we need to win today's!)

My hunch tells me when it come to the crunch, there may not be a whole lot there for a big penalty so the media are on a propaganda campaign to flood the news with stories, most of which are just rehashed reworded articles that are either false (see semi article) or the same info from previous articles.

No one has come out to date with any real figures to my knowledge of how much we are allegedly over the cap either this year or in previous years.

So If they think it's a 10 point penalty, back it up with how

Rabs said this morning that he spoke to someone who he trusts.

The root of the problem is that we have been sloppy with the cap for 6 or 7 years plus we have never been honest about it. Every year we say that's it and then they find something else. So lying to the NRL is not taken lightly.

Anyways he said that it was more about us arranging TPAs and them not being at arms length etc.

Then Rabs had a rant about TPAS and one CEO said to him that a club not being able to provide tix for the family of a TPA is a joke and don't pretend that it does not happen everywhere.

He said that there is merit to the story about the board and former merkins walking away from the game will lessen the blow.

The guy Rab's heard it from would just be another branch of the media gossip, rumour tree (they are feeding each other in a type of whirlwind).
I seriously doubt the NRL would be so stupid as to talk (leak) to sections of the media during the investigation process. The Club is already clearly lawyered up (see the clever messages on the Eels website re 'procedural fairness', 'due process') so with potential court action around the corner there is just no way the NRL would be leaking stuff.
