Eels lead Newtown
by Phil Sim
Parramatta is outclassing their Newtown Jet rivals in todays trial at Gosford leading 30 to 6 at half time.
The Eels got out to a quick lead with Blake Green scoring inside 5 minutes before rake Matt Keating crashed over from dummy half. Half James Maloney kicked both goals to give Parra an early 12 to 0 lead.
The Eels went off the boil for the next 15 minutes and let Newtown back into the game with a soft backline try but Eels star playmaker Blake Green put the Eels back on the front foot at the 30 minute mark.
A fine kick in general play forced tbe Newtown winger to bring the ball out of his own goal, however he only succeeded in spilling the ball back to Green. From the ensuing play Parra swung the ball to the blindside where the willing James Grehan crashed over two defenders to score. Maloney converted from touch.
A couple minutes later Green fired a rocket pass for Richard Faaoso who crashed over and not long after created a try for McConkie Tauasa with a great crossfield kick. Maloney converted again from wide to leave the Eels well in control 30 to 6.
Green is dominating the match while the Eels second rowers are proving too strong for their opponents.
UPDATE - Parramaata looked like extending their lead early in the 2nd half when Faaoso slipped a great ball to Green but the Eels number six couldn't find a support and the ball went to ground.
Instead it was Newtown who created points putting on two soft tries after Parramatta errors and infringements to get back to 30 to 16.
