This has turned into a gang bashing it appears.

Wehter somebody has something negative or positive to say it's there opinion and well that's life.

If anyone wants to go bag out the bunnies as some form of revenge on dave im sure dave will have no problems with that.

Granted alot of what dave has said has been tongue in cheek but ive noticed some of it has a ring of truth something that a few people have side stepped and just gone after what he has said jokingly.

I also dont get why some people are gettin so worked up for jeez it's only the internet.

Cheers 110,

Its not much of a bashing by my standards. The chorus is pretty out of tune.

Now the issues the Panthers face are quite serious.

When the injuries arrive, the Panthers will be obliged to put players into first grade that are mostly untested at this level. They will have no choice.

In that scenario, they will be relying on juniors and currently unfashionable players in the squad to lift their games a few levels.

The backs can only flourish if the forwards stay tight and any injuries in the forwards will be very difficult to overcome. Stapo, the surprise packet of the year was a genuine loss. Players like Frank P will have stand up week in week out. Frank is capable, but too much may be asked of him.

Its not enough to rely on Priddo. He simply cant carry the whole side. If Wesser cant get good clean ball, he cant attack. Theres no Preston Campbell option in attack any more. He was a tremendous player in that role. Defences were frightened when he got the ball.

Rooney is a good player and he will finish, but only if he gets good ball.

Due to his extensive surgury, as tough as he is, Gowie wont be 100% right for several rounds either. Watch him avoid being tackled for awhile. He is a master of it as he has carried many injuries over the years. He will mostly pass (rather than take a career ending hit by an SBW or Asotasi) and defences will know this.

I think the players will respond in the first part of the season, I think the forwards will be fresh and powerful and the pressure will be on the backs to finish. Then it will turn gradually around. Towards the end of the season, the replacement forwards will be left holding the fort, the backs who have been performing well will continue and get better.

If Gowie is injured again, well, that will present an enormous challenge.

I think Elliot's effectiveness is mostly dependant upon what he is given and I think that on the whole, Lang had a stronger side to work with.

Next year will be a hard one. All hands on deck.

Sticks and stones...

And you're calling us negative! You have the whole bloody team injured before the season has even started for Gods sake....think back a few years to 2003, the only major injury that year was to Girds..if the boys can stay injury free I think they have a real shot and I think Elliott has a great team to work with...

The competion is that close ANY team that gets a few injuries will struggle that includes the bunnies. Yes our depth is young but all footballers where once untried. Given the chance to shine and play first grade suddenly you go from a team of untried footballers to a team that has potential. Q i follow all grades at our club. We have good depth in our juniors

I think the difference next year will be elliott.
Given that he will bring new plays and not just one out stuff will prove to be the difference and if the Panthers can jell these new plays together with accuracy and speed alot of teams will be left wondering where the old panthers have gone.....

A few comments and people get defensive and panic and then as a lame distraction some have a crack at Souths-an entirely different topic and mostly unrelated to the Panthers difficult year ahead.

Nobody argued that Gowie will 100%, or Priddo hasnt been overworked or the loss of Campbell or Stapo wont hurt, nope, none of my real issues have been addressed at all. Mob came close.

And I hear you mob and I dont disagree entirely. Plenty of talent underneath, but its a massive step up to first grade and moreso, for a youngster to be expected to compete at the top level week in week out.

Elliot says he likes building footballers and it seems he'll be doing plenty of that next year.

Regretably, theres no Jamie Lyon to steel that backline.

As sure as the sun sets and rises, injuries occurr, notwithstanding any desire by the club or players to avoid same. These need to be planned for now and not later. Coaches understand that.

Lets talk Souths then:

Under JT, a number of quality signings (including monster forwards), retained talent like Merritt, and under the stewardship of fresh, professional and dedicated management, I think the bunnies will be a very different side next year and even better the year following. A club confidently moving ahead.

After achieving the greatest ever wooden spoon collection and with a new owner, the bunnies are still continuing with the same winning formula. Chasing the guys that are there for the money - they will lack passion like most of the ;-) stars:sarcasm: of the previous few years. I can understand the rorters having very little junior development as they don't have the territory, but souths do. How much faith does souths juniors have in the bunnies Dave???:sarcasm:

Cheers,
Tom.

Still no focus on the Panther issues, geez I hope the Panthers arent listening in. Stay focused lad/esses, the Panthers have to.

And Tom, the Juniors have a place on the powerful Souths Board.

That suggests an interest I'd say, what do you reckon?

Cheers,
Dave

What bloody Panther issues??? The season hasn't started yet and you think they have issues....are you coaching them now??? Have you been to a training session??? Do you know what is happening at those training sessions???? My guess, probably not....how about we wait and see what Matt is doing with the boys before you go off half cocked saying they are having issues...

Having spoken to someone VERY close to one of our players, I have a feeling that 2007 will see an improved and rejuvenated Panthers team. This person has told me that the boys are extremely positive and are loving the fresh approach that Matty E has brought to training. The feeling was there that under Langy, as much as I appreciated his work, the team was very stale from going to the exact same training sessions and having the same game plan week-in, week-out. They have a renewed enthusiasm under Matty and I for one am looking forward to seeing your overpriced signings have their backsides handed to them by the mighty Panthers next year Dave.

*Still no real issues addressed but a mention in dispatches for early quality.

*Post ends on a sour and negative note (pity). Easily distracted, now off to the headmaster!"

Unless Matt can get the forumula right and the Panthers players exceed their current operational performance, I think that the next season will be difficult.

The fans on this thread seem to want immediate success. This appears at odds with the club's manifesto for 2007.

There is simply no way the club can hope to replace the players it released or couldnt keep.

Its not neccessarily a good thing to have to throw in players who are not ready.

I would have hoped some signings would have materialised to give the Panthers a genuine fighting chance for the finals.

An ambit play for no less a superstar than Jamie Lyon was the recruitment highlight, coming after Priddo and Peanuts showed them up.

If Elliot wins 33% of his matches, it will be a good season and it wont be his fault. If he wins more that would be nice.

I expect that Souths will beat the Panthers again and by a lot more points. (especially if Gower is injured).

Enthusiasm got the Panthers home in 2003 (the greatest grand final ever played). But we just cant expect that almost-impossible level every week.

And nobody criticised Lang after that game did they?

thanks

No issue discussed, just lame abuse this time around.

Its a shame people have to resort to such comments.

Like saying something rude, stupid and untrue about Souths, it doesnt further the topic very much.

It doesnt help your club either.

People who resort to abuse because they disagree with other people will always be angry and dissapointed and that makes for poor contributions to discussions and even poorer perception.

Shame.

First of all, nobody here expects instant success, we are just hoping that the boys do better than last year. If you have a look right through this forum where ever next season is concerned you will see that. Once again, WHAT BLOODY ISSUES??? Oh that's right, you are ignoring all my posts, sorry I forgot.... Second, you really are full of it aren't you....you are starting to resemble a troll.....

Just another troll. Unless you agree that we suck, we are injury prone and their club are a definate for the trophy then the troll will cry:

*victim*
*negative*
*abuse*

It happens everytime....

The unwritten rule for trolls is "DO NOT FEED" ;-)

Back onto PENRITH.

That's what I am looking forward to Teach, renewed enthusiasm.
Not the verbal *enthusiasm* but the actual physical *enthusiasm*

No PK, thats not right at all.

I didnt say Penrith sucked, never have because I dont think they do. On the contrary.

I didnt say the Panthers were injury prone, just that injuries will occurr in the normal course of the season. Every club will experience that.

I didnt say Souths would win the grand final, other people dragged the bunnies into it anyway as a means of criticising me. But they not entirely relevant in a thread about Elliot.

So thats three out of three you seem to have got wrong PK. And its not likely that you want to acknowledge or accept that PK. Thats Ok, thats a matter for you.

And I am not a troll.

I was putting my view across on the 2007 season and the cllanges Elliot faces. Nobody has sought to deconstruct them in full although mob and teach put some inetresting insights across.

110 is right, people should be more tolerant of different views.
