Read they are expecting only 25k...

RFL are in some serious trouble.
As usual there’s a lot of confusion and conflicting reports coming out regarding the number of tickets being sold so far. Some people are claiming that 25,000+ tickets had been sold at the start of the week and now people are talking about being hopeful of a 20,000-25,000 crowd??

You’d have thought that if 25,000+ tickets had been sold as of Monday we’d be well on course for 30,000+ and not hopeful of a 20,000-25,000 crowd??

Was on NZ news about the lack of interest in the local area about the game. They were saying there is still 20,000 tickets to sell

The capacity of Anfield is just over 54k so if there’s 20k unsold tickets I’d gladly bite your arm of for a crowd of 30,000+!!!

Sadly we’ll probably see a crowd of around 22k-24k.

And they are now considering taking the Magic Weekend to Anfield. Fecking useless. Scousers have little or no interest in RL.

Magic weekend should stay in Newcastle for the foreseeable future as it’s a perfect fit in terms of city centre location with great transport links, world class stadium, nearby pubs and restaurants.

Plus RL is slowly putting down roots within the amateur and junior game and thunder building crowds.

Considering the crowds for the kangaroos in the games showpiece event Im not sure why people are wringing their hands at Englands crowds?

Aus v NZ 2016 Perth 20k
Anzac test 2017 Canberra 18k

RLWC 2017
Roos v Eng Melbourne 22k
Roos V france canberra 12k
Roos v Lebanon Sydney 21k
1/4 final Roos v Samoa Darwin 13k
semi Roos v Fiji Brisbane 22k

Lets be honest anything 20k plus is good compared to what the Australia is serving up for international crowds

They should play it where it makes the most money. RFL needs revenue more than it needs anything else. Fans who go to it will go regardless. If anfield are paying more to host it then take it there. Like the nrl has done with its events, rfl needs to sell them to the highest bidder.

The overwhelming majority of RL fans have had a negative reaction to magic weekend switching from Newcastle to Liverpool. If and it’s a big if the RFL actually did some promotion of magic weekend in the north east then we can grow the crowds even more at st James park.

We need to get Newcastle thunder playing on 1 of the days and get the local primary and secondary schools heavily involved as well. Maybe even target the large student population of Newcastle as well.

Because crowds in the U.K. are going down instead of up. We have shown in the recent past that we can get 40k+ at anfield and 60k+ at Wembley in the last few years.

It’s just bad management by the RFL.

The majority of fans who live in the NW will go to see their team play then they’ll go home especially with the minimal legroom at the stadium. Poor financial return for the city unlike Newcastle where plenty go for a weekend. If it moves to Liverpool I can see it moving again sooner rather than later.

Is magic weekend now the SL’s property?

Not sure to be honest. The SL now run their competition themselves so that may well be the case. Maybe Liverpool dangled a carrot in front of the SL chairmen and they bit their hand off such is the SL chairmen’s desperation for money.
