No it isn't. Penalty crackdown was there for a reason.

The crack down was for a reason. Then they went and penalised things that were not an issue in the game, creating many arbitrary, random penalties. Then they stopped penalising most things. It was a shemozzle.

Just stick to enforcing the ruck and offside properly and we'd have had a decent game.

This is not really much better, as a spectacle, than the drearier NRL games this year. Nowhere near as good as the last two internationals, and the referees have to take some of the blame.

How do the Kiwis get penalised when an out of the way Johnson gets pulled back into the ruck by Tomkins who could have just passed the ball?

This has been utter BS.

And another blatant knock on missed. Should have just gone to bed when that corrupt TMO awarded the penalty try.

Kiwis need to file a complaint against these officials. Should be an investigation, I know refs get it wrong every now and then but this was something else!

I enjoyed that, both teams a bit rusty due to lack of time together but the teams are very evenly matched so looking forward to the next 2 games. Very difficult to predict the winner which makes a nice change as an England supporter

Game over; England won - well done.

Yes, some very strange calls.

A real disappointment was the crowd - they were so quiet and did not really get behind their team. The 2 x recent AUCKLAND crowds were far more vocal and supportive. England RL need to turn that around

But Thaler must have forgotten he is meant to be refereeing to international rules, where the evidence for rewarding a penalty try has to be pretty convincing.

This is one thing that irks me...why do we have a different set of rules for different games? It would be a whole lot easier on the ref, players and fans alike if we stick to one set of rules to officiate ALL games (Internationals, club, amateur, womens, juniors etc...)...AND...stick to the darn rules from the beginning of the year until the next season's review, do not change them halfway through as what we get in the NRL. We seem to think up ways to trip ourselves over time and time again, the laughing stock of sports.

Feel bad for Super League fans if that is standard with the todays officiating, mind you, the NRL arent much better but boy, that ref was hopeless.
