I'm Gutted... goodbye Guru Jnr good luck with everything.

My best memory is still the intercept try in 2009 final that helped put a nail in the dragons coffin.

Will be sorely missed

Gee am really looking forward to 2011... :?

Sad to see him go Eric. Wouldve been loved to see him have one more year at Parramatta. Unfortunately like his dad, injuries have ended his career.

What a great career though.

Remember him as a promising winger in 1999, he was just unstoppable in Reserve Grade.

I remember his first game against the Cowboys that year, made a nervous start, but really made up for it.

Scored his first try against the ordinary Maggies, still good to see him score.

So much talk early in his career about the comparisons between him and his father. Both could fend off 3-4 blokes and very quick.

The semi final against the Knights was a great try he scored, virtually 10 m behind the kicker (mightve been Kelly) and raced up quickly to score and wrap up the semi.

Had a great start in 2000, but unfortunately when he was picked for Origin, wasnt the same. Only played 1 game in 2 years after that, and was signed with the Roosters. Which pretty much reduced his first grade career.

We welcomed him back in 2004, after only a hand full of games for the Roosters, and played as good as ever. Was voted on of the best wingers in the game and finally got his rep honours in 2005 for City and did a great job that game.

And in 2006 finally got an Origin call up. Although he only played 3 games, he was one of NSW's best in the final game in Melbourne.

And who can forget his call up in 2005 for Australia. One test against France.

Finally his try in the Grand Final, he played his best game in the match and deserved a Clive Churchill medal ahead of Slater.

I know he had his defensive lapses in 2008 but after Anderson came to the club it pretty much made him a better player both attack and defence.

It is sad to see him retire, couldve played more matches, but still a great career.

I wish him all the best.:)

And now the Inglis to Parra rumour starts up.
Parramatta have lost one of their most famous names with Eric Grothe announcing his retirement from the NRL today.
The 30-year-old son of 80s legend Eric Grothe senior will not fulfill his one-year contract with the club in 2011 following a long rehabilitation from a knee injury.
The news follows the revelation in yesterday's The Sun-Herald that former dual international Timana Tahu will leave the club today.
Advertisement: Story continues below
''We are working very closely with Timana's team and we understand his position, as he understands ours,'' Parramatta chief executive Paul Osborne told The Sun-Herald. ''Hopefully we can get it resolved [on Monday].
The move increases speculation that the Eels will make a move to lure Greg Inglis to the club with the Origin star's contract with the South Sydney Rabbitohs still in limbo. The NRL have yet to register Inglis's contract following concerns about several third-party deals associated with his move to Sydney.
The Eels are now coached by Stephen Kearney who was the assistant coach at the Melbourne Storm where Inglis has played all of his senior football.
Grothe, the former Australian and NSW Origin representative, said today he was ready to move on with his life.
"I'm going to miss the club [the Eels] and especially the boys, but I feel it is the right time to move on," he said.
"I've had many injuries throughout my career and it's getting harder to recover from them. I loved my many years at Parra but I have other things I want to concentrate on now."
Grothe made his debut with the Eels in 1999 against North Queensland. He joined the Sydney Roosters in 2002 before rejoining the Eels in 2004.
The Eagle Vale junior made his representative debut in 2005, playing for City and Australia in the same season. In 2006 he played all three Origins for NSW.
The talented winger played 142 NRL games and scored 268 points from 67 tries.
He will now concentrate on his personal training business and music and TV career.

Very sad to see Eric go, he was one of the few players that would make you stand up and cheer out loud, even if watching on tv or listening on the radio, whenever he scored a long range try due to his speed and power.

That try in the 2009 GF really should have led the Eels to victory - Eric was magnificent that day. In retrospect it is a pity he didn't retire then, at his peak.

Well now we can officially say that we are at least $1 million under the cap. Eric was one of my favourite players and I wish him the very best.

Now noyd needs to design me a new sig with Hayne.

Starts? Now?

Go to the GI thread and you will see that I got wind of this a week or more ago.

Best of luck, Eric. I was always pumped to watch you play.

Don't read too much into what I said, just stating the bleeding obvious.

Yes have seen the GI thread.

Bummer...One of the shining lights for 2011 was the prospect of seeing Grothe back again.

2011 just keeps getting worse and worse, yet the season hasn't even started yet.

Have to agree with this. Just as we thought things couldn't possibly get any worse... I wonder what's next. Hindy, Hayne, Mannah and Fui all having to carry Webb home from KFC because he's eaten too much, only for all four them to collapse under his weight, snap their ankles and be ruled out for the season?

Sad day for Parra and all... I know so many fans that used to enjoy seeing the Guru's run with 100% of effort everytime they played.

I was looking forward to see him play again this yeah but its not to be :(

Best of luck Guru and thanks for the great memories.

Too bad he wasn't able to announce it earlier. He deserved one last send off at the end of last season. No doubt he'll get it at the first home game anyway.

But I reckon Kearney made the tough call of getting rid of players who just aren't able to train how they should. That's what I want him to do.
