Why would they need 5000 members?

It's a realistic goal achievable to any bid team coming from a rugby league heartland. Should be the absolute minimum IMO in how many memberships a club should get. Any lower and it stems from a lack of effort put in by a club. It also shows how much the community embraces the bid/club. If the Broncos can achieve 20,000 some years and Titans/Cowboys 6-7000. Then surely a team from south qld or Ipswich should be able to achieve 5000.

The NRL have stressed the importance of memberships for a few seasons now. Clubs like Souths, Bulldogs and the Dragons lead the way with their brands. They, alongside Broncos and occasionally Roosters/Eels/Tigers market themselves brilliantly. The communities get behind them win/loss/draw. Kids love them and that has materialized into merchandise and membership sales over the last few years.

Yep it should have been each bid option seperately and you could vote for 2 bids rather than writing the combinations down.

Don't like, create your own.

I support the Bulldogs and no one else. From what I've heard there are a lot of people in Brisbane who hate the Broncos so I think there would be plenty.

A Majority of them are already supporters of the Titans, Dragons, Bulldogs and Sea Eagles. They are the most popular brands outside of the Broncos in SEQ.

seems strange that there isn't a single one on here? Even WA with its limited fan base has 4 or 5 of us on here!

I would have thought someone living in Brisbane and refusing to support the Bronocs (as there claims to be tens of thousands of them) would be jumping up and down for joy at the prospect of supporting a new Brisbane team, I am failing to feel any passionate support, plenty of logical support from people who think another Q'land team is better than another NSW team, but no one who seems overjoyed at the prospect of getting a new team to follow?

Shows you where they are at doesn't it?

Why would they need 5000 members?

I thought 5000 was the number the NRL came up with when talking to the Bears and the Reds NRL bids. They are the leading bids and logically if any other bid was going to challenge the two strongest bids then they would need a high number of members to show community support.

Similar thing could be said about the CC. The majority of the CC support other teams. Your point?

There would be plenty of support for another local team in Brisbane.

TBH

I have had a look at all 4 bids, Central Coast, Western Reds, Ipswich and Central QLD.

The only bid that seriously looks like they will be ready for 2013 is CC.
WA Reds could be ready with much hard work.
Ipswich and Central QLD are that far away from being ready for 2013 it's not funny.

Lets be fair dinkum here, we need teams/bids that can be ready to go in 2013. There are only 2.
Central Coast bears and WA Reds.

Perhaps a poll would be useful -

How many fans - actually residing in the Brisbane & outskirts areas - would switch to a new Brisbane team?

And also - how many wouldn't?

On a side note: I suspect that the first 6 months of this year will see a massive amount of work for the Brisbane II bid, trying to catch up to Bears/Reds - and I think they'll do it or come close by the time submissions are due.

How do you know that? did you ask them?

I did ask them and the majority of residents of the Central Coast do support Rugby League and the NRL, who wouldn't? but a lot of them are either without teams or casually support a team. Central Coast residents rarely support another team with high passion, but they are out there like the guy on here that supports the dogs but would welcome the bears as his 2nd side. The majority of Central Coast Residents are waiting to support their own team.

Whereas in Brisbane, there is a high amount of passionate supporter groups for each team that i mentioned.

And you've asked them all, have you? You're just spurting out unfounded garbage.

Seeming as though they're population is SO big it would be impossible to ask them all but i did ask quite a few of them and that is a better gauge then your logic of because Brisbane has large supporter bases for Bulldogs, Dragons an Sea Eagles the same must be said for the Central Coast. That logic is insulting to community individuality, but you don't care whatever just change everything to suit your ideology viewpoint.

TBH I don't think any of us know exactly where the bids are at or what they have left to do. Bears have been more puiblic with their progress and obviously being well funded through their Leagues club they have been able to put alot more resources into developing their bid than the others who are all volunteers working on the bids. Ipswich also has some Leagues club funding allowing them to employ the consultant.

It's interesting to see where the bids have focussed their attentions (to the best of our knowledge)

Bears: Community support and local business support
Reds: TV value, Govt support for ground upgrade and jnr development
CQ: Corporate support and Govt support for new stadium
Ipswich: ?? Not really sure what they are focussing on at the moment
PNG: National Govt support

What is the deal with Seagulls league club in Tweed, does anybody know?

Do the Bears own this or own shares of it? (they obviously have some input) do they get money from the leagues club, does the Titans get any of the money?

Who controls it? where do the profits go to? Do junior League players see this money in North East NSW?

Tweed Seagulls amalgamated with Norths in 1998. When you become a member for norths, you become a member for seagulls and vise verser.

They are a sister club to Norths. Run by the same higher body club management.

Any funding going into junior footy? if so where?

Any funding going into any NRL team?

I actually know a few people around the CC region. About a third of them don't support RL at all and the others all support other teams (mostly Newcastle). Brisbane has such a large population that it can easily support 2 teams. Easily.

The discussion has moved on from that but a "few people around the CC region" hardly represents the entire community .... if what you say is true.

I never claimed to ask anybody in Brisbane, did i?

Perth Red makes a good point about the support of the Ipswich bid though.

just to balance my comments re passionate Ipswich fans, I wonder how many of the Bears fans on here actually live in Gosford and how many in Sydney?

I'd feel very dispassionate about receiving a second rate failed team if I were a CC resident.
