You think that the NRL or the IC will decide which expansion bid gets accepted based on emotion and spite towards the AFL = delusion.

No, I expect the NRL to make a decision on a different set of criteria then the AFL. And one of those should be listening to what their fans wants. Without their fans they are nothing.

So, on the poll so far, out of the 144 people who voted for expansion in 2013 (and cared who it was):

135 voted for WA or 93.8%
86 voted for CC or 59.7%
53 voted for IPS or 36.8%
13 voted for CQ or 9.0%
66 voted for 4thQLD or 45.8%

*amended the numbers to reflect El D's intended choice.
-For the record I voted for WA and CC.

Add value to TV deal-
1. W.A
2. Ipswich
3. C.Q
4. C.C
5. PNG

Agreed, there isn't much room for debate with this point.

Stadium-
1. C.C
2. W.A
3. Ipswich
4. PNG
5. C.Q

Agreed.

Player base/ Juniors infrastructure -
1. PNG
2.
3. Tied C.Q, C.C, Ipswich
4.
5. W.A

Strongly disagree. My problem here is that you only look at participation rates. However this isn't the whole picture. Right now for juniors coming through the system in QLD there are ample oppurtunities to make the big time. An extra team might help a little bit but there are already plenty of pathways for QLD juniors.

This isn't the case for WA. Quality juniors coming through the system in WA are far more likely to be lost to the game due to the lack of pathways to the top level.

Moreover you completely ignore the room for growth. QLD is already RL heartland and you aren't likely to produce anymore juniors then you have now. So adding a team in QLD wont do anything to increase leagues total numbers of juniors.

With WA there is much more room to grow due to the presence of a top flight team.

Corporate Support-
1. C.C
2. W.A
3. C.Q
4. PNG
5. Ipswich

Agreed not much to argue here.

Community Support-
1. C.C
2. C.Q
3. W.A
4. PNG
5. Ipswich

Not sure why CQ are ahead of WA here? QLD might be league heartland but that doesn't instantly mean a new team has community support.

Viability-
1. C.C
2. W.A
3. C.Q
4. Ipswich
5. PNG

Agreed.

Overall though i agre with your assessment and the final results basically reflect what i think as well.

Anyone who thinks the Bears are a death sentence for Manly doesn't really understood the Lower and Middle North Shore.

Norths have for as long as I remember had trouble with support on the fringes of the area. The West (Lane Cove) was Tiger town and the Middle Harbour suburbs have always had strong Manly support. A Bears on the CC will reinforce the Bears position on the Upper North Shore and will probably result in a long term shift in the Lower and Middle North Shores towards Manly. It's only a matter of time before clubs like Asquith and Berowra end up playing on the Central Coast and clubs like Brothers and Willoughby (once again) start playing in the Manly Comp. Right now the bitterness about the Neagles debacle (Blaming Manly? Ours was the least predatory option given to the Bears when the NRL disgracefully kicked them to the curb. Better than the Blue and Gold "Parramatta Bears" out of Parra stadium and the Red and Blue "Newcastle Knights" out of EA Stadium) has slowed this process down. A strong Bears on the CC will help it. The Beaches have more in common with the Lower and Middle North Shore and the Upper North Shore has stronger ties to the Central Coast.

We Get 200,000 people out of this. We're fine.

The NRL gets three of the biggest CBD's in the Country back with this move. From a corporate Angle, it's a no brainer.

I am so glad that a Manly poster has weighed into this conversation. Whilst i disagree with the middle North Shore assessment, the Lower North Shore is Manly. I think the Bears just get the cake in the middle north shore with the upper North Shore and Central Coast is most definitely Bears.

Very good post, also the Bears ill help Manly's current situation. Overall Manly won't be affected as much (or at all) as people think.

Stadiums should be ranked:
Lang Park
Daylight
Perth once the renovations are completed.
CC Stadium (Perth will be bigger + have more modern facilities in the new stand)
A million years
Rocky & Pt Moresby

Have you seen how few actual Brisbane born & bred players are in the NRL? Until the Titans came along you either played for the Broncos or you moved 700+kms away to Sydney or 1000kms to Townsville. Sydneysiders really don't seem to understand this.
Brisbane has a massive junior system but as long as it is all funneled into one team it'll always be under-represented in the NRL.

yeah but how many games can Suncorp hold realistically?

You have the Broncos playing 12 games there, Plus the bulldogs and the Sea Eagles playing one game each there. Then at most 2 origin games. You have the Queensland Reds who plays 9 games there and Roar about 13. That is 38 games there before you start with whatever International Rugby league, International Rugby Union or International Soccer (and NRL finals games/Super Rugby finals games) that gets played there. How much matches can this stadium hold? I thought it was built for about 30 matches a year, we'll we are already using it for over 40 games a year and now they want to play another 12 games (minimum) there?

At least the Central Queensland Bid has been looking for locations for a possible stadium.

With advances in turf it can get plenty more use out of it. Mot like it is raining and muddy like the UK pitches. Yes they would need to returf it with the mdoern plastic real grass mix but its not hard.

As I said before 2 years ago Subiaco oval held NAB cup games, 2 AFL teams games, Western Force Games, Int soccer and Int RU plus concerts and WAFL final. Over 50 games/events.

How many games a year does ANZ have?

Looks like most people are set on a WA team.

The other position will be fought over whether we need another NSW team or to go for another QLD team.

Will be another interesting , tense wait for the C.C Bears bid . I have to say their bid has been well developed over the years and has a lot of support on all levels.

There is a bit of a difference between a purpose build rectangular stadium and the Olympic stadiums, ANZ was built to hold more events. Suncorp has already had problems with its turf for a long time.

But for trival in 2011 ANZ stadium will hold 37 sport events including the NRL Grand final but non of NRL or AFL possible finals games at the venue. If used for every possible NRL and AFL finals game the total is only 43 events.

So give or take a few events it is on par with Suncorp, without the addition of another team playing out of Suncorp (ipswich).

alrighty, i worked it out. The 'all' category does not contain all the events that is in all sports, it just shows an overview of the variety of events at the stadium for the year.

So each individual sport category contains all the sports for that sport.

League - 14 events (not including finals matches or the Bulldogs vs Gold Coast & Manly vs Brisbane Double header)

Union - 9 Events (not sure if anything is missing)

Soccer - 12

Concerts - 0

So that is 35 without Finals of any competition.

That leavs us with Suncorp - 35 ANZ - 37.

Yes, a real issue about over use of a stadium is talking out of my arse. If my arse can come up with such a thoughful discussion i wonder what my mouth can do when it finally does open.

You expect them to make a decision based on that? Please, the community support behind the Bears is astounding and I would love to see them in because of it, but I for one am not naive enough to believe that the NRL or IC are going to pass up the money that Qld4 can offer because of "what the fans want".

Note, fans will not be lost no matter who enters the competition. In fact, more fans will be gained regardless.

Upper North Shore, Lower North Shore. The fact remains there are too many teams in the Sydney region now. I can't see the IC adding another.
