yeah but how many games can Suncorp hold realistically?

You have the Broncos playing 12 games there, Plus the bulldogs and the Sea Eagles playing one game each there. Then at most 2 origin games. You have the Queensland Reds who plays 9 games there and Roar about 13. That is 38 games there before you start with whatever International Rugby league, International Rugby Union or International Soccer (and NRL finals games/Super Rugby finals games) that gets played there. How much matches can this stadium hold? I thought it was built for about 30 matches a year, we'll we are already using it for over 40 games a year and now they want to play another 12 games (minimum) there?

At least the Central Queensland Bid has been looking for locations for a possible stadium.

If the Ipswich Jets get a fourth franchise for QLD shouldn't the Bulldogs and Sea eagles be playing their home games at ... well home?

And don't the yawnion people have their own stadium?

And soccer is played in the off season.

Note, fans will not be lost no matter who enters the competition. In fact, more fans will be gained regardless.

Note, Fans / Supporters of the the Bears who are Bears fans first and foremeost will be lost if they again knock this back. They don't support other teams. Even Gallop has been quoted saying it was in the vicinity of 40,000 + fans that they lost when the Bears went under.

Please don't tell me I should love the code first.

How that stacks up in the bid process is not for me to judge, but I don't know if the same could be said about other bids, the CC Bears bid is unique because of this.

What would you tell me? Liverpool has a population of 200,000 and we have no team of our own yet this area is solid league territory.

What I would say is you missed my point. I am talking about existing Bears supporters and their families.

What team from your area got the flick and along with it lots of fans as well ??

Liverpool has a population of 200,000. We don't have an NRL team. People in my neighborhood go for Roosters, Dragons, Tigers, Bulldogs.

An Ipswich team would also be an instant success.

Eels and Magpies junior area and you know it.

You also know Bluetongue would get above average crowds for Bears games. You also know the deathrate of Brisbane clubs from our comp compared to Sydney clubs.

You expect them to make a decision based on that? Please, the community support behind the Bears is astounding and I would love to see them in because of it, but I for one am not naive enough to believe that the NRL or IC are going to pass up the money that Qld4 can offer because of "what the fans want".

Note, fans will not be lost no matter who enters the competition. In fact, more fans will be gained regardless.

No, i actually expect them to prove themselves hypocrites. I'm just pointing out something people take to be a 'truth'. That "Rugby League is truly run by the fans", where the reality is that is far from the truth. I took something as important as expansion and went as far left field as possible to make it obvious.

Upper North Shore, Lower North Shore. The fact remains there are too many teams in the Sydney region now. I can't see the IC adding another.

Since when has that been a fact? Because you said so?

Bulldogs and Manly commodate their large Queensland base fans by playing games up in QLD. EVen if you did take these two games away from the Stadium, The Stadium is still overused. Union moved to Suncorp a few years back.

Very good post, talking to a few people when the Bears left the NRL lost 175,000 fans that may be because of the other teams that went down as well.

Western Australian Reds and Central Coast Bears 2013 - It WILL happen.

Out of interest where do you get this figure from? Crowds and tv viewing went up in NSW so where did the fan loss occur and how has it been measured? What happened to Jnr participation in the Bears area, any figures on that?

I have no doubt plenty did become casual RL fans rather than die hard Bears fans but I am doubtful that people walked away from the game all together. It is a furphy imo to use the AFL will take over card, AFL has been in Sydney for 25 years and not taken over yet. What is disappointing is that other clubs haven't wised up and developed marketing plans to encompass all off Sydneys suburbs, instead we remain having this mentality that every suburb has to have a team or else the good people will support AFL, even though AFL doesn;t have a team representing that suburb!

To be honest i don't know. where the figure comes from, my post even stated 'talking to a few people' they have stated that number. You'll have to ask them.

About walking about from Rugby League all together, i don't know what your experiences with Sydney are but living here all of my life there really is a tribal feeling about supporting the team you do. I know no less then 15 people turned their back completely when the Bears got kicked out. Now for me to 15 people to do all that and go support another team in another code is a massive number and if everybody in Sydney knew around the same amount of people then that is a lot of people gone.

Similar colours, different looking jerseys.

I hope the WA Reds Jersey is the one that Perth Red posted up, i hope the alternate jersey is the exact same except the red and black parts just swap.

WA Reds and Central Coast Bears 2013.

The Bears were one of the best supported Sydney sides in the 1990's. You only have to look to attendance figures to know that and it is hardly up for dispute.

They also happen to come from an area which is traditionally one of the wealthiest in the Country. This isn't the Noveau Rich of WA, who spent most of the 20th century lagging behind the rest of the country financially, this is Australia's equivalent of Connecticut and the stockbroker belt. It also incorporates one of the strongest junior nursery's in the country based in the largest city in RL heartland without an NRL team.

From a financial perspective, it covers North Sydney, one of the five biggest Business Districts in the Country, Chatswood, in the top 10, and Hornsby, in the top 20.

To not consider the unique position of this bid and honestly think that Ipswich, Logan and Toowoomba can possibly bring more financially to the game is frankly, stupid.

Could you put this as two different questions...

Where are the two best places to have new NRL clubs?

Perth and Brisbane/South QLD.

What are the two best teams to add to the NRL?

WA Reds and Central Coast Bears.

See what I mean.

How is it that the NRL today has more TV viewers and higher attendances than ever before.

I think CC and WA Reds have the best business plans. But I feel the NRL want that 4th QLD team. It will give them a strategic advance when negotiating the next TV contract.

It will be a tough decision and one that could disappoint many on the Central Coast.

Yeh, I agree with you. I'd be happy as long as the Reds are in, but I feel CC deserves it this time. They've put in the hard yards over the past few years and are at a much more advanced stage. If Ipswich and CQ miss out I hope they continue to stage their case.
