Something for the fans? Is that why we are going to expand to the WA? Because there is a mass amount of RL fans there calling for a team? No, we are going there because it opens up a brand new market and a new timezone. Its a strategic business decision.

Do me a favour too, show me someone, anyone in Rugby League administration that has said "Rugby League is truly run by the fans".

You did go left field, and then you lost logical reasoning.

Judging by the poll, it seems to me that the fans want WA.

Crushers fans may not exist but South QLD fans do.

And of those fans, that aren't broncos fans or any other of the popular NSW teams that are well supported in SEQ, how many are on forum sites and how Manu are out in the community drumming up local support for the bid?

They have a lot of support on your poll! 30% vs 50%. Pretty god for a late commer and siing as Bears fans quoted 80% support the Bears!

The late comer seems to be WA and CQ but not making a difference overall. Obviously this is just a forum poll which is only assessable for some people.

Individual bid results:

WA 86.49%
CC 55.67%
IPS 37.83%
Central Queensland 11.35%

Only two teams over the 40% mark. Interesting.

I want a 2nd Brisbane, not "Ipswich".

As mentioned earlier, WA is the no brainer.

Yeah, Ipswich label is poor - Swisbane is a better label :p

I think that WA, Southern Brisbane and the Central Coast are undoubtedly the best three options, but as someone else quite succinctly put it, the Central Coast option will most likely occur if Cronulla fail.

The Central Queensland bid just seems a wierd one for me. Rockhampton has a population of 75,000 people and Mackay is as close to Townsville as it is to Rocky and Bundaberg is as close to Brisbane is it is to Rockhampton. Do we seriously want to include such a small population base as the next team? Where is the corporate backing going to come from? Where is the supporter base required to back a professional outfit?

I'm sorry, but South West Brisbane, Western Australia and the Central Coast are all much better choices in every respect than Central Queensland.

There are only two options that people have voted for in serious numbers

2013 - Western Australia and Central Coast with 49%
2013 - Western Australia and Ipswich with 29%

That's almost 80% of the votes between two choices

If the Bears hadn't merged, demerged and then been booted, another Sydney club would have been under the criteria in 1999. It wouldn't have been Penrith, Canterbury or Cronulla. Probably the chooks or Manly.

It was Penrith. And the Roosters? They came out of SL pretty much unscathed and as probably the wealthiest club in Sydney.

The best way for the game to expand is for:

* another Queensland team (Ipswich being the only viable option really) to provide more high rating Queensland matches to sell to pay TV and free-to-air, and to

* expand in Perth to provide another non-NSW/Qld licence which will have local content value to broadcasters (especially since the anti-siphoning law changes), tap into a large unrepresented market, and offer a unique time zone for broadcasts into the east coast

The Bears have little actual value for the NRL which is why no matter how good their bid, they are likely to be ignored. Thats life.
Remind me how the Titans and Cowboys rate in the Brisbane OzTam region?

Lets be honest. Another Brisbane side won't improve the TV deal as much as people are making out. The Broncos will continue to play on Friday night (The real money spinner) pretty much every week, and they'll be relegated to a flavour match every few months like the Cowboys and Titans. and I highly doubt any new supporters of a Brisbane side won't already have PayTV subscriptions, as the odds are they are already league fans who simply do not like the Broncos. In terms of subscriptions, it's not a particularly massive area anyway.

Now I will concede alot of the Bears support already have payTV. However, it must be noted that these people are the reason the Super 14 can attract so much money despite its terrible ratings. These people have more income than most, and therefore can attract advertisers willing to pay more money...

Don't underestimate it. The Bears have a very strong bid, and financially they promise to make a much larger short term impact (next 5 years) than the other bids. And for our long term strategy, we need a sure bet to go along with the WA gamble.

If Ipswich is the only viable option then your arguement is lost goddo. Ipswich just isn't ready. Listen to someone who has lived around there and still has family there. This isn't cause I'm a Bears fan either, it's because Ipswich just doesn't have what it needs to be a successful national sporting franchise ATM. Lack of infrastructure, lack of sponsors, lack of corporate support, lack of community support, lack of a business model, lack of an identity or area, lack of a plan, lack of resources (a genuine club house not the small current jets league), a HQ, nrl standard training facilities etc..

In 10years time, maybe slightly less they will be ready. Not now or in the next few years however. Btw what's the point of tv revenue of your using 90% of it to prop a team up anyways? Eg Storm bring in tv money due to their location but so much of that is used to keep them stable.

WAReds & CCBears for 2013.

Quite a list you have there. And if they can show that they have done all that? They are in.

For our long term strategy the competition needs to be truly national. Adding a tenth team to the Sydney region won't help with that.

Will be make or break for Ipswich ( and possible Bears) over the next 12 weeks. They have massive ground to make up on the leading two bids to prove they could be viable. I get the sense (from a TV $ perspective) that the NRL will want two teams in together so its not like they will do a GC and give them an extra year or two to get their bid together.

I get the sense that the NRL would go for Ipswich if they stacked up but I don't think they will so it will be Reds and Bears I am confident.

I hear what you're saying Perth Red but I don't think the independent commission will be quite as independent as some on here are being lead to believe.
It's going to make it that much easier for Gallop to hide behind anonymous decisions supposedly made by the IC.

Gallop has always just been a puppet so I expect little difference, just different people pulling the strings.

To be fair to Gallop, the CEOs job is to implement the decisions of the board - which he may or may not agree with personally. He has possibly done a good job at that, considering they have kept him employed for so long.
None of us know what Gallop would do/have done if he had carte blanche. It isn't just a matter of "hiding behind".
