Dog act by the Tweeter. Not only for what he said about his Mum, but he's got a lot of Australian's focusing on laws that aren't really significant (let alone exist). But there's still plenty of unjust laws out there that no-one cares about.

The tweet was a low low troll.

But the remedy is pretty simple, isn't it? Delete the post/tweet from your feed, personally block/ignore the user, report the abusive post to the site administrators (Twitter) to deal with and suspend the troll's account. If it happens again, repeat from step one.

That approach works with facebook trolls, with anything that breaches the guidelines of this site, with abusive online poker chat, pretty much with anything. Don't go running to the politicians to change the laws! Too many people in the public eye just want to use social media only one way to build their "personal brand", without acknowledging that it's a two way communication medium with all of the associated risks and pitfalls.

On a side note
"Charlotte Dawson rushed to hospital after twitter attack"
and
"Police were informed of a troll this afternoon"

are two of the stupidest things i've ever read in news. And yet they keep being repeated

Wikipedia is an agenda run heap of shit.

An aversion to wikipedia also indicates a complete illiteracy to the internet.

Are you disputing that the definition of trolling on wikipedia is incorrect? If not, stfu please.

I don't want to hear about cultural marxism or w/e right-wing fruit loop views you have about wikipedia

fantastic, lets ignore focusing the police powers on the rampant gun crimes. instead they should be protecting the feelings of celebrities that put themselves in the public eye.

a better way to go about it would have been for robbie to ask the public to try track the guy down and shame him. trying to get laws passed over offensive comments will be largely symbolic. anyone who wants to insult you has the means to get around it.

its not to say taking a shot at a guys dead mother is cool, but in a country of millions...youre gonna get one person to come out with that. we cant make laws to cover every single person we dislike

It's only as anonymous as you make it. This bloke's ISP was exposed in a matter of minutes. Which he brought upon himself.

YeAh but it's a reality of our society. There were certain parts of town I was told to avoid when I was a kid. If I broke those rules it was my own fault. You can't have your social media cake and eat it.

I like Robbie and what has happened is Terrible. But we all have choices. He can delete his account and move forwarder continue to have an open account and cop what he gets.

Twitter and Facebook are great when used properly. Has anyone read the terms and conditions? I haven't......

Also should point out that speaking out against internet trolls/flaming is the number 1 way to guarantee your feed will be flooded with taunts for the next week. I imagine Robbie is already copping it

If you think what was said is acceptable, well then good luck to you.

I just hope no one ever says anything like that to you regarding your family.

Because then I am sure your attitude will change.

I'm sure it's been said b4, but if u don't let trolls in they cannot post to your account......what is it with some people!

If the federal government and state governments work together, like Barry O'Farrell promised to do yesterday, they can.

The UK government has shown it is possible to police. These people can be found, these people can be brought to court, and these people can be jailed when necessary.

This does not belong in the "too hard" basket.

BM, you are the poster boy for abuse on this forum. If u went to Barry, would he do anything? Publicity for free for a politician, well I never.....

Let's just wait and see what he actually does.

I've seen a Facebook account get banned. I suppose the circumstances were slightly different.

A 19 y/o guy who went to my school got killed and some people set up a Facebook page dedicated to his memory and some guy started up an account pretending to be him saying "it's alright guys I'm okay" and it got banned, lol.

Also lol@Usain Bolt saying this was flaming but not trolling. Are you thick? Blatantly obvious the intention was to get a rise out of Farah.

I probably browse 4chan once a month, about a year ago someone died in qld, driving drunk and hit a banana truck. Public page. Everyone on 4chan was posting on it huge rip messages, but about "the bananas that died because of the idiot drunk driver". There were some pretty funny ones. People who knew the kid were obviously upset. Fair few accounts got banned but most of them have trolling accounts.

And 18 pages in, it seems like the majority still doesn't get it. The ol' ignore it and it'll go away approach still the most popular. Ridiculous.

We shouldn't be sending people to jail ffs for saying mean things about someone on the internet. It's a stupid idea and in ten years time we will all wonder why we have overcrowded jails like the Americans.

As I said earlier, if it is to be treated by the government it all, it needs to be treated as a mental health issue.

My whole life I was taught to ignore bullies, "sticks and stones". Wrong or right your not gonna change what I and many others were taught cause Robbie Farah said so.
