From experience, any type of social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc., are dangerous.

In 2006, I had a false identity created by a disgruntled ex. Using my full name, she created an account with personal details (address, date of birth and so on) in Yahoo Messenger. False details included being a cocaine dealer and supplier of porn to minors, including my son.

This was reported to the NSW Police who said they couldn't do much about it and it would cost $100,000s to launch legal action wthout any chance of success.

My employer (NSW Government at the time) caught wind of this, and due to the sensitive nature of my employment, I was subjected to numerous internal and independent inquiries, winding up in a 169 page official report.

It all ended up with my duties to certain sections of the community being prohibited.

So, if you venture into these social media traps, do so at your own risk. Understandably, I have never undertaken an social media account since 2006 and do not intend to do so in the future.

Geez if you think twitter is bad play some Xbox or PS3 online for a while. Everytime i jump online for some Call of Duty i receive or hear others copping everything from death threats to necrophilia on dead relatives taunts over a f**king computer game. There are 'clans' of kids, teenagers and even grown men who band together and spend hours to bully and harrass with absolutely no accountability.

Can't say it affects me though and even if i did i know how useless moderation as a whole in the online world is for the most part. Part and parcel of been active in the online world. I never have anybody send such abuse on facebook though - it's anonymity that by large fuels the 'courage' for people to be able to post vile abuse and threats online.

But in all honesty there are far worse things in the world going on then twitter abuse. Man up, move on and if you can't don't use such a medium.

How do you know veggiepatch isn't trained in martial arts? I have trained Muay Thai in Thailand with some 55 year olds that would KO any NRL player in 5 seconds. Big difference between training some wrestling to use in slowing someone down and training full time in a martial art.
